Tesco, the UK’’s largest retailer, has started testing its Club Card TV streaming service and is expected to roll it out to its customers soon.The over-the-top service is in beta test mode and only available to Tesco employees. It is being run by Blinkbox, the streaming service that Tesco acquired in 2011.The Club Card programming line-up will include TV series and movies and there is content from Warner Bros. and the BBC among others.TV series include BBC comedy series Goodness Gracious Me and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and Electric Sky-distributed fashion series Fashion Avenue. There are also animated kids series including Care Bears and Justice League.Movie titles include Mazes and Monsters and Cheesecake Casserole. There are also kids animated titles including Superman: Brainiac Attacks and The Return of the King.The service will be free for Tesco customers who are part of the Club Card loyalty scheme. Consumers without a Club Card can get one free of charge and then access Club Card TV.Tesco is the largest retailer in the UK with a nationwide network of supermarkets. It also offers financial and other services under the Tesco brand.
Scripps Networks Interactive has secured carriage for its Food Networks and Travel Channel services on Virgin Media’s network. The rebranded Travel Channel will bring content including Jonathan Phang’s Caribbean Cookbook, Bizarre Foods America with Andrew Zimmern, International House Hunters, Hotel Impossible, Dangerous Grounds and World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides to Virgin Media viewers.The addition of Food Network to Virgin Media’s line-up brings shows including Barefoot Contessa, Man V. Adam SawickiDeutsche Telekom-owned T-Mobile Polska has appointed Netia CEO Adam Sawicki as its next chief executive, effective June 1. Sawicki is currently chief exec and president of the management board at Netia, Poland’s second largest fixed line operator. In his new role he will report directly to Claudia Nemat, board member for Europe and technology at Deutsche Telekom.The appointment will see Sawicki take over from Zacharias Piperidis, who has held the T-Mobile Polska top job on an interim basis since November in addition to his role as chief operating officer at Greek telco OTE Group – in which Deutsche Telekom is the largest shareholder.Piperidis stepped in to replace Miroslav Rakowski, who left T-Mobile Polska on October 31 “upon his own request to pursue new challenges outside the Deutsche Telekom Group.”“With Adam Sawicki at the helm of T-Mobile Polska, it is clear that we have the right man to tackle the Polish telecommunications market and industry,” said Nemat.“As a former CEO of GTS Central Europe and with his extensive international experience in the business and residential markets, he is a perfect strategic fit to help us ‘lead in business’ – a key element in our company’s strategy – and integrate the GTS operations we recently acquired.”Sawicki was president of the management board and chief executive officer of Ruch Internet between 2011 and 2012 and was CEO of GTS Central Europe from 2008 to 2011.

Ukrainian broadcaster 1+1 Media Group is to use capacity on SES’s satellite at 5 degrees East to broadcast eight channels.Under a long-term agreement between the pair, 1+1 will lease of one transponder on the Astra 4A satellite positioned at 5 degrees East.The capacity contracted by 1+1 Media will enable the group to host all of its eight channels on SES’s satellite. Seven of its DTH channels serve the Ukrainian market: 1+1, 2+2, TET, PlusPlus, Bigudi, Unian TV and Kvartal TV.The other channel of the group, 1+1 International, is targeted at the Ukrainian diaspora in Europe, and is an international version of the 1+1 channel.1+1 Media Group recentlystruck a deal to add the latter channel to a new OTT service aimed at expatriate and ethno-linguistic groups launched by Cisco in partnership with Sky.“1+1 Media Group is one of Ukraine’s major players in the market. We have already been hosting some of the group’s TV channels. This new agreement brings our long-standing relationship to a new level, and we are very much looking forward to delivering all of 1+1 Media Group’s channels to both Ukrainian and international audiences,” said Ferdinand Kayser, chief commercial officer of SES.“We have been relying on SES’s services over the past several years, and we are very pleased that our collaboration is expanding.
