Ramgeet goes joint top with double
PHOENIX, Arizona, (CMC): Jamaican Andrew Ramgeet rode a double to grab a share of the lead at Turf Paradise while his son, Andre, had a single winner as they made their presence felt at the southwestern United States racetrack here Saturday. Ramgeet Sr captured race five with 2-1 chance Bet the Harbor and followed up by taking race six with 4-1 bet Rhetorical. Andre, meanwhile, found success in the first event of the day’s eight-race card when he booted favourite Passed Due to victory. With the brace, Andrew Ramgeet moved alongside Scott Stevens on 49 points, with David Lopez 14 behind in third. The veteran rider opened his account when he partnered with five-year-old Bet the Harbor to beat the four-year-old and upwards by a neck. Going 6-1/2 furlongs, Bet the Harbor trailed out of the gates but snatched the lead on the first turn under pressure from Sunset Brandy and Wannablikegrandpa. Ramgeet and Bet the Harbor pulled away in the stretch but were then forced to stave off the fast-finishing Three Fast Sevens, to reach the wire first. In another 6-1/2 furlong trip in race six, Ramgeet Sr and eight-year-old chestnut gelding Rhetorical got the better of the four-year-old and upwards by a neck. The pair raced well back early on, grabbed the lead at the eighth pole and drew off before holding off favourite Flat Gone at the wire.
