Photo credit: infoplease.comHAVANA, Cuba — The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official declaration strongly condemning recent sanctions imposed by the government of the United States against Venezuela’s state oil company, PDVSA.The declaration, published by Juventud Rebelde newspaper on Sunday, read: “Cuba’s government and people express their solidarity with President Hugo Chavez and with the Venezuelan people, and fully support a resolution passed by the National Assembly of Venezuela on this issue.”The declaration claimed that, with these sanctions, the United States has violated international law and implemented unilateral and extraterritorial regulations. The note from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the economic aspect of these punitive measures is not the essential issue but the risk that, with this decision, Washington might be trying to provoke new conflicts in the region as part of its efforts to divide Latin America and the Caribbean.“By attacking Venezuela, you’re also attacking Cuba,” the text noted.PDVSA is one of seven companies penalized by the US for providing gasoline and other refined petroleum products to Iran in violation of a US law that aims to pressure Tehran into dropping its nuclear program. The State Department said PDVSA supplied Iran with “at least two cargoes” of a blending component used to improve gasoline. The sanctions bar PDVSA from seeking US government contracts, obtaining US export licenses, and from obtaining financing from the Export-Import Bank of the US, but leave untouched the flow of an estimated 1.2 million barrels a day of Venezuelan crude oil to the US.PDVSA’s refining business in the US, represented mainly by Citgo Petroleum, will also be unaffected.Caribbean News Now Sharing is caring! Not only was it the first time that both companies held an event at the “World’s Most Famous Arena,” but each world championship changed hands in the double main event. In the closing match, Kazuchika Okada became a five-time IWGP heavyweight champion and got a measure of revenge by upending Jay White in a fantastic match between the New Japan stars. While the 26-year-old White was on a roll as the youngest non-Japanese IWGP champion, his title reign was cut short by the greatest champion in company history. The two capped the show with an excellent display of wrestling. MORE: Join DAZN and watch more than 100 fight nights a year Just before that, Matt Taven finally reached his dream of becoming the Ring of Honor world champion as he outlasted Jay Lethal and Marty Scurll in a physical ladder match that took a heavy toll on all three men. Taven was able to push Lethal off a ladder and take his title from high above the ring to claim the championship. While the match delivered, Taven received a mixed reaction from the crowd and social media for his big win.Elsewhere in the show, Jeff Cobb and The Guerillas of Destiny became double champions and Kota Ibushi and Tetsuya Naito stole the show with an amazing exhibition of back-and-forth, hard-hitting action. Both promotions had big expectations for the historic night on the grand stage, and each pulled off an epic event that showcased what they do best.Check out Sporting News’ complete ROH/NJPW G1 Supercard coverage below (all times Eastern):ROH/NJPW G1 Supercard resultsKazuchika Okada defeats Jay White to become the IWGP heavyweight champion11:55 p.m. FINISH: Both men are on their knees exchanging forearms and finally getting to their feet as they continue going back and forth.
