Next-generation youth banking using cards & apps blows away the old

first_imgA growing number of fintechs and banking startups in the U.S. and other countries is targeting Generation Z, and even reaching into the younger Generation Alpha, children born after 2006.In the U.S., roughly 25% of the population is under 19. In Europe teenagers and younger kids comprise around 20% of the population. This represents a tremendous market, but typically incumbent banks don’t aim many products and services at Gen Z because they aren’t currently profitable. This contrasts with more financially mature Millennials.Newcomers are outflanking incumbents. The legacy institutions’ lack of interest created a two-fold market niche for challenger banks and fintechs: serving the current “pocket money” needs of young people and building the loyalty of today’s youngest customers for the coming years.73% of American parents provide a regular allowance to their children, a total of $41 billion per year, according to RoosterMoney’s Kids Allowance Report. Part of pocket money is earned from domestic chores. Parents say their goal is to teach children about financial literacy, involve them in useful activities and help them to form healthy spending habits. The parents lived through the Great Recession and want to inculcate thrift. Indeed, in comparison to older generations, Gen Zers tend to save almost as much as they tend to spend right away. When they spend, it’s typically on food — mostly sweets, eating out, video games, toys and books. Most Gen Z consumers prefer in-store shopping rather than ecommerce. However, the older they grow, the more online transactions they make. continue reading » ShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblrlast_img read more

Joshua spars with two fighters for rematch

first_imgRelatedPostsNo Content Available Anthony Joshua is sparring with two fighters in his training camp to replicate the strengths of Andy Ruiz Jr ahead of the rematch.Anthony Joshua lost his IBF, WBO and WBA world heavyweight titles to Andy Ruiz Jr in New York in June and the British boxer is now preparing to take on the Mexican-American in a rematch on December 7.Ruiz produced one of the biggest shocks in the history of heavyweight boxing when he knocked down Joshua four times during the fight, before stopping the Brit in the seventh round. The Mexican-American’s speed and punch volume overwhelmed Joshua and as part of his preparations for the rematch, the Brit has brought in two fighters to replicate the strengths of Ruiz during his training sessions. As reported by talkSPORT, Joshua has recruited the help of Timothy Moten. The American is currently undefeated with two KOs from his five wins. And Joshua’s camp hopes he will benefit from sparring with the short and stocky boxing style the American has. They have also brought in Albon Pervizaj, who they hope can replicate the devastating hand speed Ruiz displayed at Madison Square Gardens.Pervizaj, who is 12-0, with nine KOs, is a young German heavyweight and Joshua hopes he can use the sparring with the two fighters to help him create a better plan come fight night.Joshua is now undertaking a 12-week long training camp to focus on preparing himself for the career-defining bout against Ruiz. The rematch will take place in Saudi Arabia in December in a purpose-built venue. The Diriyah Arena, which will be a three-sided venue, is expected to have a capacity of 15,000.And Joshua has admitted he will also be changing his approach for the fight and will no longer be trying to stay relaxed before a bout.“I need to start taking this approach to my fights where I’m a bit more lively,” said Joshua. “I know I’m capable of it.“There is too much at stake. If I go in there where I’m switched on, a time like the Ruiz fight where I am so relaxed, that might be the difference.”While Ruiz has declared he will be going into the clash looking to end Joshua’s career.“I took it to AJ in the Big Apple,” said Ruiz. “And I’m looking forward to ending his career in the desert.” Tags: Timothy Motenlast_img read more

Experts: Trump Could Face Lengthy Audit for Florida Move

first_imgPresident Trump might not be able to change his primary residence to Palm Beach as quickly and easily as he had planned.According to tax lawyer Mark Klein, New York state officials are known for auditing wealthy residents who seek to make such moves to lower-tax states, in order to ensure they are real and not simply on paper.Klein explains, “New York says just because you fill out a piece of paper, that doesn’t make you a Floridian. People have this misunderstanding that if you go to Florida and fill out an affidavit, you register to vote and you get a driver’s license, that is all it takes.”Tax accountant Barry Horowitz says of Trump, “It’s 100 percent he’ll get audited. There’ll be a fight.” Such audits can last for years, Horowitz adds. The general rule to avoid paying New York taxes is to spend less than 184 days a year in the state. However, auditors and judges could examine where Trump’s business is headquartered (in Trump Tower), as well as the size of his various homes, where he displays his family photos and valuable artwork, among other things.Trump announced his intention to make Palm Beach his primary residency last Thursday, tweeting: New York Governor Andrew Cuomo responded:Good riddance. It’s not like @realDonaldTrump paid taxes here anyway… He’s all yours, Florida. https://t.co/9AX0q1aBkQ— Andrew Cuomo (@NYGovCuomo) November 1, 2019 Trump responded to both New York politicians on Friday with this tweet:…..with a President and Federal Government that wants our wonerful City and State to flourish and thrive. I Love New York!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 1, 2019 ….this decision, but in the end it will be best for all concerned. As President, I will always be there to help New York and the great people of New York. It will always have a special place in my heart!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 1, 2019 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House, is the place I have come to love and will stay for, hopefully, another 5 years as we MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, but my family and I will be making Palm Beach, Florida, our Permanent Residence. Taxes and energy costs are way too high, Upstate is being allowed to die as other nearby states frack & drill for Gold (oil) while reducing taxes & creating jobs by the thousands. NYC is getting dirty & unsafe again, as….— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 1, 2019 New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio also chimed in, tweeting:Our deepest condolences to the good people of Florida as Trump attempts to outrun his past (and near future). https://t.co/QFqeYO7xTq— Mayor Bill de Blasio (@NYCMayor) November 1, 2019 In New York, the President is paying a top marginal tax rate to the city and state that adds up to a total of 12.7 percent. A tax overhaul which was implemented in 2017 means he can no longer deduct most of those state and local taxes from his federal return. In Florida, Trump would pay zero income taxes as well as zero estate taxes.last_img read more

“Miracle Woman” Survives Six-Hour Cardiac Arrest

first_imgA British woman has made a full recovery, after her heart stopped beating for six hours due to severe hypothermia.Officials report that 34-year-old Audrey Schoeman got caught in a snowstorm while hiking in the Pyrenees mountain range in Spain last month. Her husband, Rohan, called for help. He says, “I thought she was dead. I was trying to feel for a pulse… I couldn’t feel a breath, I couldn’t feel a heartbeat.”Schoeman was taken to a hospital, where Dr. Jordi Riera treated her. He says Schoeman’s situation is very rare, since the human brain typically suffers irreparable damage if the heart stops beating for five minutes. The doctor adds, “What happened to her is a consequence of the drop in body temperature.” Apparently, Schoeman survived because the extreme drop in body temperature that stopped her heart also slowed down her brain metabolism. That allowed her heart to cope more effectively with the lack of oxygen.Schoeman’s body temperature had dropped to 64.4 Fahrenheit, as opposed to the normal 97.7-99.5 Fahrenheit range. Riera and his medical team used an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine in order to keep her alive.ECMO replaces the heart and lung functions. That allowed the doctors to oxygenate Schoeman’s blood and pump it around the body.Riera says Schoeman’s body slowly warmed up until her heart started beating again after six hours.“She woke up and asked: ‘What am I doing here?’” Riera says. The woman suffered a slight loss of sensitivity in her hands, but should make a full recovery.Riera adds, “As a scientist I don’t like the word but it’s like a miracle.”According to Schoeman, “It’s like a miracle except I think it’s all because of the doctors. Probably this winter I won’t go to the mountains, but I hope that in spring we will be able to start hiking and trekking again. I don’t want this to take away that hobby from me.”last_img read more

President Trump Continues to Pester “Mini Mike” on Twitter

first_imgMini Mike Bloomberg is a LOSER who has money but can’t debate and has zero presence, you will see. He reminds me of a tiny version of Jeb “Low Energy” Bush, but Jeb has more political skill and has treated the Black community much better than Mini! https://t.co/qIef5VhjDr— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 13, 2020 Presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg is firing back at President Trump for making fun of the former New York City mayor’s height. Bloomberg shot back, “He Donald where I come from we measure your height from your neck up.”Bloomberg spoke out yesterday while campaigning in North Carolina. Earlier in the day, Trump sent a number of tweets attacking Bloomberg. He referred to the billionaire as a “mass of dead energy” and nicknamed him “Mini Mike.”Mini Mike is a 5’4” mass of dead energy who does not want to be on the debate stage with these professional politicians. No boxes please. He hates Crazy Bernie and will, with enough money, possibly stop him. Bernie’s people will go nuts!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 13, 2020 Bloomberg fired back on twitter calling Trump a carnival barking clown and says Trump is scared of him..@realDonaldTrump – we know many of the same people in NY. Behind your back they laugh at you & call you a carnival barking clown. They know you inherited a fortune & squandered it with stupid deals and incompetence. I have the record & the resources to defeat you. And I will. https://t.co/fO4azmZaUg— Mike Bloomberg (@MikeBloomberg) February 13, 2020center_img Just imagine how a debate would play out between these two candidates.last_img read more

Tumwater Timberland Library now has Laptops Available for Students

first_imgFacebook106Tweet0Pin0Submitted by Tumwater Timberland LibraryThere are 15 laptops now available to check out at the Tumwater Timberland Library, loaded with academic software, exclusively for Tumwater School District students to use for homework and school projects.  The new service is a partnership between the Tumwater School District (TSD), which bought and provides the laptops, and the Timberland Regional Library (TRL), which manages and check outs the equipment. The program beganthis summer and will be evaluated at the end of June 2018.Here’s how it works:Students with TSD identification and a Timberland library card can check out a TSD laptop, connect to the free Wi-Fi and work on school projects.Laptops must be used in the library only.TSD technicians will provide tech support.TSD may replace lost or damaged chromebooks depending on available inventory. Here’s what it means:For today’s students, computers and internet access are essential academic tools. Without them, learning and achievement may suffer and students can become discouraged. While TSD provides most students a laptop to use while at school (some students check them out to bring home), the challenge is not all students have the technology and access they need at home. This new partnership can help students close technology gaps and navigate their way to success – with help from local educators and librarians. The Tumwater Timberland Library is located at 7023 New Market St. For more information, contact the library at (360) 943-7790, or visit TRL.org.last_img read more
