After all, no investor wants to buy stocks today and experience paper losses in the short run. However, it is while the stock market faces its greatest risks that many of its best buying opportunities appear. Through focusing your capital on high-quality businesses that trade at low prices, you can build a surprisingly large nest egg that may help you retire early.5G is here – and shares of this ‘sleeping giant’ could be a great way for you to potentially profit!According to one leading industry firm, the 5G boom could create a global industry worth US$12.3 TRILLION out of thin air…And if you click here we’ll show you something that could be key to unlocking 5G’s full potential…FTSE 100 outlookMany investors seek to buy FTSE 100 shares when they are trading at low prices so they can sell them at significantly higher prices further down the line. Many of the periods when stocks are at their lowest levels coincide with times when risks are at their highest. For example, many large-cap shares have crashed over recent months in response to challenging economic prospects for the UK and the rest of the world. While this may mean that buying shares today can produce paper losses in the short run, it also presents a buying opportunity for long-term investors. Over time, the index and its members are likely to recover from the current challenges they face. As such, long-term investors who can look beyond short-term risks may be able to implement a buy low/sell high strategy in order to improve their chances of building a large nest egg for retirement.Boosting your returnsAs well as having the self-discipline to buy FTSE 100 shares while they are trading at low price levels, investors can boost their returns through buying them in an ISA. A Stocks and Shares ISA offers tax efficiency, in terms of no tax being charged on the gains (dividends and share price growth) for the investments held and withdrawals. That could make a positive impact on your overall portfolio size in the long run.Furthermore, investors who focus their capital on those companies with solid business models and sound finances may be able to generate higher returns over the coming years. Such companies may be in a better position than their peers to take advantage of weaker market conditions to expand their presence. For example, they may have the financial strength to make acquisitions while asset prices are low to expand their profit potential over the long run.Retirement prospectsWith interest rates being low and house prices appearing to be overvalued versus average incomes, FTSE 100 shares could become increasingly popular among a wider range of investors. This may increase demand for high-quality businesses, and help to push their share prices even higher as the index recovers from its recent crash. This may take months, or even years, to occur. However, it has the potential to catalyse your retirement plans, and could even help you to retire early.
Rector Belleville, IL Featured Events Assistant/Associate Rector Morristown, NJ [Anglican Communion News Service] The Anglican Church in Japan/Nippon Sei Ko Kai (NSKK) has launched the second phase of its Isshoni Aruko (Let Us Walk Together) project, set up after the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear fallout of March 2011 that left tens of thousands dead, missing or injured.Phase I of the project was a response to the immediate needs of affected people following the disaster. NSKK clergy and laity provided relief, rehabilitation and support for vulnerable people such as children, the elderly, those with disabilities, and foreign migrants. In Phase II of the project, Let Us Walk Together: Honesty and Hope, NSKK not only aims to build on its humanitarian work to date, but also to become a beacon of truth about the real impact of the nuclear fallout.“Those with a financial interest in keeping Japan nuclear-powered rarely reveal the full facts about the impact of radioactive fallout,” explained Yoshimi Gregory, a Japanese national working at the Anglican Communion Office.“This is why the Anglican Church in Japan has decided it is going to undertake its own research into the impact of the nuclear fallout and make that information publicly available. This will include the stories of those living with the legacy of the Fukushima nuclear disaster.”An example of that legacy is the church-run kindergartens which are in supposedly “safe” areas. In fact they need to be cleaned daily of radioactive material inside and out before children can enter. What’s worse is that the youngsters cannot play outside because the playground contains contaminated soil that has been there since the power plant melted down.Kay Ikezumi, the new director of the Let Us Walk Together: Honesty and Hope project said, “Needless to say the children, families and teachers [in these areas] are stressed. The children need to be able to run and play and discover the world around them. It is not safe to do these things within the radiation-contaminated area.”Ikezumi said the NSKK project will help families and teachers to travel to camps away from such places, giving them a break from living with nuclear contamination.NSKK will also continue to provide other humanitarian programs for the thousands of people still living in the temporary accommodation that has been their home since the disaster. On a recent visit to the country, members of the Church of England were told that some people from affected areas were being treated as second-class citizens. A refugee community spokesperson told them that engagements to be married had been broken off, and jobs had been refused to those suspected of being contaminated by radiation. To help people understand the truth about the affects of the radioactive fallout, NSKK is going to exchange its research findings with both secular and religious organizations in the country. It also plans to organize symposiums and lectures, and organize study tours to affected areas to allow as many people as possible to learn about the true effects of radioactivity on humans and their environment. In June 2012 statement, NSKK’s 59th General Synod called for nuclear power to be abolished. “There is no denying that, even without accidents, nuclear power is a real threat to people’s lives in that it imposes sacrifices on socially weakened people throughout the process, from the mining of uranium to the disposal of radioactive waste.”It concluded, “In solidarity with other denominations and faiths, we call for an immediate abolition of nuclear power plants and a conversion of Japan’s energy policy toward the development of alternative sources of energy.” Anglican Communion, Inaugural Diocesan Feast Day Celebrating Juneteenth San Francisco, CA (and livestream) June 19 @ 2 p.m. PT Youth Minister Lorton, VA Bishop Diocesan Springfield, IL Rector Pittsburgh, PA Priest Associate or Director of Adult Ministries Greenville, SC Submit an Event Listing Director of Music Morristown, NJ Canon for Family Ministry Jackson, MS Press Release Service Rector Tampa, FL In-person Retreat: Thanksgiving Trinity Retreat Center (West Cornwall, CT) Nov. 24-28 Rector Smithfield, NC Director of Administration & Finance Atlanta, GA Rector Albany, NY Submit a Job Listing Assistant/Associate Rector Washington, DC Associate Rector Columbus, GA Assistant/Associate Priest Scottsdale, AZ This Summer’s Anti-Racism Training Online Course (Diocese of New Jersey) June 18-July 16 Curate Diocese of Nebraska Rector Hopkinsville, KY Tags Family Ministry Coordinator Baton Rouge, LA Featured Jobs & Calls An Evening with Presiding Bishop Curry and Iconographer Kelly Latimore Episcopal Migration Ministries via Zoom June 23 @ 6 p.m. ET Episcopal Church releases new prayer book translations into Spanish and French, solicits feedback Episcopal Church Office of Public Affairs Ya no son extranjeros: Un diálogo acerca de inmigración Una conversación de Zoom June 22 @ 7 p.m. ET TryTank Experimental Lab and York St. John University of England Launch Survey to Study the Impact of Covid-19 on the Episcopal Church TryTank Experimental Lab New Berrigan Book With Episcopal Roots Cascade Books Rector Collierville, TN Rector Bath, NC Course Director Jerusalem, Israel Rector and Chaplain Eugene, OR Rector Shreveport, LA Associate Priest for Pastoral Care New York, NY Rector (FT or PT) Indian River, MI An Evening with Aliya Cycon Playing the Oud Lancaster, PA (and streaming online) July 3 @ 7 p.m. ET Asia Episcopal Migration Ministries’ Virtual Prayer Vigil for World Refugee Day Facebook Live Prayer Vigil June 20 @ 7 p.m. ET Missioner for Disaster Resilience Sacramento, CA AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to PrintFriendlyPrintFriendlyShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to EmailEmailShare to MoreAddThis Rector/Priest in Charge (PT) Lisbon, ME Rector Washington, DC The Church Investment Group Commends the Taskforce on the Theology of Money on its report, The Theology of Money and Investing as Doing Theology Church Investment Group Cathedral Dean Boise, ID Virtual Episcopal Latino Ministry Competency Course Online Course Aug. 9-13 Virtual Celebration of the Jerusalem Princess Basma Center Zoom Conversation June 19 @ 12 p.m. ET Anglicans take a stand for nuclear truth in Japan Rector Martinsville, VA By ACNS staffPosted Jul 12, 2013 Seminary of the Southwest announces appointment of two new full time faculty members Seminary of the Southwest Submit a Press Release Priest-in-Charge Lebanon, OH Curate (Associate & Priest-in-Charge) Traverse City, MI Join the Episcopal Diocese of Texas in Celebrating the Pauli Murray Feast Online Worship Service June 27 Rector Knoxville, TN The Church Pension Fund Invests $20 Million in Impact Investment Fund Designed to Preserve Workforce Housing Communities Nationwide Church Pension Group Remember Holy Land Christians on Jerusalem Sunday, June 20 American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem Episcopal Charities of the Diocese of New York Hires Reverend Kevin W. It is a design plan which suggests method to live efficiently and affluently with sharing three generations in one house. I have thought the moment when I encountered client for the first time. The client planned to build a house for leaving children and children who go to studying abroad, grandchild’s favorable color that is pink without attention about question, “why do you make house in which two people will live so largely?”, and with intention which they can live together, provided they have place to live. Save this picture!© Sun NamgoongSave this picture!SectionSave this picture!© Sun NamgoongHouse is located near Mt. Gwanggyo that is situated on the West of Suji, Yongin-si. Site has been constructed with 4 meter higher than the front road, which is a place where Low Mountain on the South is spread and nature communication very tasteful. Due to law’s restriction of natural greens area (20% of the building to land ratio), it has been planned to build 3rd floor which has been unused in current detached house by suggesting space that generation can share in cross section rather than spreading on one floor. With this site condition, the first floor will be made for parents’ residential space and all family’s space, and the second floor made for leaving children and children who go to studying abroad, which independent residence is possible. With the intervening space in cross section, it can make connection between parents and their children to communicate actively by raising and failing through stairs. The third floor will be created for space (Library and AV room) in which family members can share according to their life style, so that it will make them experience various life values. Save this picture!© Sun NamgoongOuter volume of the house can make indentations by coming in and out instead of not located in straight line, and this composite comes to each floor with various expressions. Small garden will be made on the first floor which is connected to yard, and space between the second and third floor made to connect with balcony, add depth in the space at the same time while separating function, and attract communication between human and human or human and nature. Save this picture!SectionDaughter and son who doubted for this plan have really expressed their desire to live in the house together after the completion. It is a piece of good news. Single and double households have been increased and living pattern in Korea has been changed due to appearance of “Single Korea”. FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmailPrintMoreShare thisFacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmailPrintMoreShare this
Community News Two weeks ago, as I sat here on Sunday morning at the 10:30 service, after being away most of the summer recovering from two surgeries, I glanced ahead to the collect for today, the prayer we use near the beginning of the service. One phrase jumped out at me: “running to obtain your promises.” What grabbed me was simply the contrast to how I’d been feeling: I wasn’t running to obtain anything! My last several months have been a slow motion approach to life. Stumbling to obtain your promises? Sitting around to obtain your promises? Napping to obtain your promises?…maybe!I didn’t linger there, though, because I started thinking about the second half of that phrase, about God’s promises. One way or another, I realize I’ve spent a lot of time doing that lately. There’s the version of them that we see in today’s Psalm 91. It’s so reassuring in its statement of God’s promises: everything’s gonna be alright. God will deliver us, rescue us from danger, answer us, be with us in trouble, satisfy us with long life. Our reading only uses part of the psalm, skipping some verses in the middle, and I looked those up (p. 719 in the BCP); they’re just as great: God will clear away our enemies, defend us from all illness and injury, guard us even from lions and snakes, surround us with angels to protect our every step. Wow!However, much as I’d like an ironclad guarantee of good health, happiness & contentment, and security in its many forms, I don’t actually believe God promises those sorts of things. I’m pretty sure the committee that designed the lectionary didn’t either, and that’s why they omitted those middle verses. The psalmist probably suggests them because they’re poetic and beautiful as a metaphor. But many Christians make statements that suggest they believe, or want to believe, that every bit of this is literally true; simply commit yourself to the Lord and all will be well, now, sort of like Lake Wobegon where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average. It’s easy, then, to fall into the trap of blaming God if and when we get up one morning, or one year, and realize that we’re coming up short on one count or another, maybe several. “Wait just a minute, God! I’ve prayed, I’ve given, I’ve served, I’ve loved, at the very least I’ve tried to be a good person. Why do I have cancer? Why have I lost my job or my house or my savings or my status? Why did my beloved die or a relationship fall apart? Why aren’t I happier? Why is my life so hard? Why, God?” Once again, the issue is thinking that God has promised us health or good luck or wealth or happiness or ease of life or protection from danger. Wish as we might, that’s just not how God works. So then what does God promise us? Look back at those verses we did include in the psalm:+ To deliver us. Not deliver us from all problems and annoyances, but to deliver us, period. Jesus took care of that one. Because we are bound to God in love, Jesus, in his death and resurrection once and forever delivered us from the power of the sin and death that might separate us from God. That pretty much covers being protected, rescued, and given refuge as well, which are a few of the other promises.+ To answer us when we call. We talk, God listens. Maybe God’s answer will be clear and fast, or it might be indirect, indecipherable, or slow in coming. Might be in silence. Might be on our own or through the wisdom and insight of others. But God will answer us if we talk, and then stop talking to listen.+ To be with us in trouble. Right now, this is my favorite. This one, I’m coming to understand, often occurs in the form of community. This is a promise from God that’s aided by help from us, on both sides of the equation. A community of people who care can’t be there for us if we don’t let them know we need them, if we aren’t willing to be vulnerable in that way. I’ll tell you, though, as I sat there that morning two weeks ago, and last week, and stand here today, it’s worth risking, because the feeling of love and care that comes to us through community in times of trouble is awesome and is intimately connected to a sense of God’s promised presence. There’s another side to this. We’re called to be that community, the presence of Christ in the world in times of trouble, not just for the folks we know and like, for friends and family, but for all sorts and conditions of people. For the worn and weary woman standing at the intersection with her sign. For the friend of a friend whose Facebook posts drive us nuts. For the quirky and the cranky, the one who can’t remember us from one moment to the next and the one who can’t forget a wrong we committed years ago. How we do that is another sermon, but that God uses us to fulfill that promise is pretty clear to me.These promises aren’t half of a contract God signs with us when we’re baptized; they’re the gifts God gives us so that we may be, in more words from the collect, “partakers of your heavenly treasure,” so that we may be living the life of God’s kingdom and extending God’s reign in all the world, to all the world, now and forevermore. Through the fullness of God’s grace, each of us is doing the best we can–running or walking or sitting still or dreaming–with the gift of God’s promises. Professional dilemmasOn 1 Feb 2003 in Personnel Today Previous Article Next Article Related posts:No related photos. Do you have an e-learning problem? Then ask our experts to find a solution.E-mail it to the address at the bottom of the page Q We’re thinking of putting some of our induction material online? Isthis a good idea and can you suggest what type of material works well online? A Yes. A common complaint from inductees is that they have so muchinformation thrown at them during their first few days that very little sinksin. The benefit of creating an interactive, online induction course is that youcan check the retention of information every few screens with short quizzes. Itcan also be accessed prior to the employee starting with the company. An online induction can be as brief or as comprehensive as you feel yourorganisation needs. You can include information on international offices, sports and social activities offered and a map of the building with keylocations indicated. Other material could revolve around IT and e-mail policies so new startersare up-to-date with these prior to joining. Progress with reading this materialcould be tracked and this could be added to staff records, which might beparticularly valuable if there were compliance issues involved. Not all induction material should be put online because it might alienatenew starters who like to feel a personal connection with the firm they arejoining. However, there are key pieces of information which many employees liketo go through a few times. By providing this online, it frees up HR personnelto concentrate on those essential areas that require personal interaction, suchas a personal welcome, introduction to team members and reviewing the staffhandbook. It may well be that you look to an external supplier to provide a bespokesolution. If this is the case, make sure you are able to edit, update and addto content yourself, as within any company, there can be frequent changes aspeople join, leave or change their jobs. If internal resources are limited, commissioning bespoke work is one option. Either way, an updateable solutionensures that your induction programme can grow with your needs. Four out of five British women are endangering their health because theyfail to take enough exercise, a survey by charity Cancer Research UK hasconcluded. Only one in five metthe Government recommendation of exercising five times a week or more for 30minutes. Dr Lesley Walker, director of cancer information at the charity, said:”It is very worrying that such a large proportion of British women takeless than the recommended amount of exercise, or none at all. This could leadto serious health problems.” The survey followed a review by Cancer Research UK-funded researchers atBristol University, which showed regular exercise could cut the risk of bowelcancer by up to 50 per cent and possibly help prevent breast, lung andendometrial cancer. Nearly 40 per cent of women polled said lack of time stopped them fromexercising more often. Nearly a fifth put it down to a lack of motivation. The Johan Sverdrup field, which is being developed with a total investment of NOK124bn (£11.2bn), has a resource estimate of 2.2-3.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent Image: The Johan Sverdrup field is now expected to begin production in October 2019. Photo: courtesy of Espen Rønnevik/Øyvind Gravås – Equinor ASA. Equinor and its partners are advancing production at the Johan Sverdrup field in the Norwegian part of the North Sea by a month to October 2019.Earlier this week, the partners secured consent from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) to start production from the offshore gas field.Equinor said that the Johan Sverdrup project continues to progress well during the final stages of preparation for operations. Owing to this, the partners are fast tracking the planned schedule for production start-up.The Johan Sverdrup field is being developed in two phases and it is the first of them which is getting ready to be brought on stream.Phase 1 of the Johan Sverdrup project represents an investment of NOK83bn (£7.5bn) and has involved development of the processing platform, accommodation and utility platform, drilling platform and riser platform, three subsea installations, power from shore project, and an export pipeline to transport oil to Mongstad and gas to Kårstø.Currently, the project partners are focusing on completing the testing of the equipment and systems required for the full field centre to work and perform as one installation. The start-up of production in October will be subject to completion of all the testing without facing any issues with critical equipment.Production at Johan Sverdrup field to start only if it is safe and prudentEquinor projects and drilling technology executive vice president Anders Opedal said: “Based on the remaining known scope of work, we are increasingly confident of starting production at Johan Sverdrup soon.“At the same time, given the very size of the Johan Sverdrup development, there will always be a risk that we in the final testing phase come across unforeseen issues that end up extending the start-up period. Ultimately, we’ll only start producing when it is safe and prudent to do so.”On the other hand, the NOK41bn (£3.71bn) second phase development of the Johan Sverdrup field is targeted to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2022.Equinor is the operator of the Johan Sverdrup field with 42.6% stake and is partnered by Lundin Petroleum (20%), Petoro (17.3%), Aker BP (11.5%), and Total E&P Norge (8.4%).

Bakery businesses are launching delivery services, either locally or nationally, to continue to thrive during the coronavirus pandemic. Here, they discuss how to get started.“Transforming our business into a food delivery service was something we never anticipated or planned for,” explains Sara Christey of Edinburgh’s The Beach House Café & Bakery.Like many bakery businesses, the bakery has adapted to trading under coronavirus and, with the help of volunteers, is providing essential groceries to consumers who cannot get to the supermarket.A small team are delivering boxes of food to doorsteps by bike, and the business is also offering a pick-up service that involves minimal contact.“Our local community have supported us for years and we thought this was an opportunity to give something back – we are on a very steep learning curve and adding new, high-quality products every day,”“Our local community have supported us for years and we thought this was an opportunity to give something back – we are on a very steep learning curve and adding new, high-quality products every day,” she adds. With vulnerable or self-isolating consumers unable or unwilling to leave their homes or visit supermarkets, many bakeries are working with their suppliers to offer groceries – such as cheese, milk, meat, flour and eggs – alongside their bakery products.Scarborough-based Cooplands (pictured) has combined some of its suppliers’ products with its own baked goods to create the Food Parcels service. Priced at £35 including delivery, the parcels contain a selection of essential groceries, bread and sweet treats such as flapjacks. It took Cooplands three days, working with agency Savvy Marketing, to develop a digital platform connected to its website that could take orders and payment online, with central management similar to how the business manages orders from its shops.“Partnering with delivery companies is expensive, so leveraging owned assets is important,” says Cooplands CEO Belinda Youngs. “Bakers are not delivering main meal solutions and generally have a lower average order, so efficient processes and restricted, densely populated geography are key success indicators.”Important things to think about are product ranges, how and when orders will be taken, the notice given for an order, delivery times and if businesses can produce the items ordered, advises Neville Morse, managing director at Janes Pantry.Bakeries also need to decide if they are local, regional or national, suggests Laurence Smith, owner of Fatherson Bakery. Options include using existing vehicles currently available in the business, working with a distribution partner or investing in a fleet.Smith says having a core project team and strong e-commerce platform was critical to his business launching its own grocery delivery website in a week.London-based Today Bread (pictured, right) set up online ordering through the Square Online Store system for a delivery and collection service.“It’s all about adapting and focusing on what’s possible or can be affordably accessed,” says Today Bread founder Alexandre Bettler. “Some of our team have brought in or sourced bikes to get orders to customers. You can either try to keep everything in house, or bring in third-parties to fill the gaps you can’t provide.”Working with a third party allows businesses to tap its customer base and expertise, adds a spokesperson from Just Eat. To work with an aggregator, however, businesses need paperwork to show proof of ownership, that the business address is registered with the council and Food Standards Agency (FSA) or Food Standards Scotland (FSS). To sign up with Just Eat, for example, they would need an FSA rating of three or above, or a Pass in Scotland. The decision to deliver on your own or go through an app is entirely individual, says Romy Miller, commercial director at Gail’s Bakery, which has an online shop selling produce and groceries for home delivery and click & collect.“There are benefits to retaining the end-to-end customer relationship, but there are also challenges with trouble-shooting last-mile issues, when they happen. Going through an app has fees attached to it, but there is a benefit in ready-and-waiting mass customer awareness.”But whatever approach a business takes, offering delivery can give bakers access to new custom.“The current Covid-19 period has given rise to a new delivery marketplace – there are so many great things available that we could never access direct to our homes in the past,” adds Miller.

Mary McGraw Jeffrey Thibert, assistant director of national fellowships in Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement (CUSE), said placement on the list is a significant honor for the University, raising its profile even further among U.S. doctoral and research institutions.“The grants benefit Notre Dame by confirming the University’s commitment to internationalization and expanding our global reputation,” he said. “Notre Dame Fulbright recipients are not just representing the U.S. abroad; they are representing Notre Dame abroad as well.”Thibert said the Fulbright is a great opportunity for students for three key reasons, the first of which is its ability to allow students to deepen their engagements with a particular part of the world through an immersive academic and cultural experience.“Second, the Fulbright provides funding for work that can significantly enhance one’s professional trajectory, whether that work is graduate study, dissertation research or classroom teaching experience,” he said. “Third, receiving a Fulbright grant opens the door to a vast network of Fulbright recipients around the world, and the prestige associated with the Fulbright has been a marker of outstanding achievement for decades.”Strong applicants often have experiences in their academic or extracurricular histories that indicate an interest in the wider world and the ability to adapt to an unfamiliar cultural environment, Thibert said. These experiences may involve study or research abroad as well as participation in internationally-themed coursework or clubs.“Notre Dame students are competitive applicants for the Fulbright because the University has prioritized international engagement for undergraduates and graduate/professional students,” he said. “…Because the Fulbright U.S. Student Program is fundamentally about promoting cultural exchange through educational exchange, international engagement as a student is a key indicator that someone will be an effective representative of the U.S. abroad.”Class of 2014 alumna Deanna Kolberg, who received a Fulbright grant for the 2014-15 program, is currently working as a teaching assistant in South Korea.Hoping to one day pursue a policy job within the U.S. government, Kolberg said she sees herself contributing to foreign policy through research or ground work with the Department of State.“Korea is of huge importance for U.S. national security policy, with large numbers of military personnel protecting the border from a hostile state to the North, and lies as a hub for U.S. security in greater Asia,” she said. “I can’t think of a job in foreign policy over the next 50 years that won’t need knowledge of Korea.”Kolberg said anyone looking to apply for a Fulbright grant should take full advantage of the opportunities Notre Dame has to offer.“Don’t spend your fall break at home — apply for a Nanovic Grant,” she said. “Do research beyond what’s required of your classes. Write a senior thesis. Keep in touch with your professors.”Kolberg said she has benefited in a variety of ways as a result of joining the Fulbright community.“You’re in a group of really highly motivated internationally-minded thinkers, with plenty of opportunity to interact,” she said. “I’ve learned a whole new set of skills and patience living with a Korean host family in pretty much the middle of nowhere.”As a teacher in Korea, Kolberg said she has experienced both the joys and pains of teaching and her own Korean has slowly improved as well.“More than anything, I’m one of the few people I graduated with who can honestly say they love their job,” she said.Even when her mood wasn’t the best, Kolberg said she was uplifted when greeted by students in the hallway shouting, “We love you, Deanna!”“And you just can’t have a bad day like that,” she said. “They just won’t let you.”After her school’s graduation day last week, Kolberg said countless students told her how much they appreciated her class and how much they learned. Her next career move is now centered on returning to the United States.“I recently was accepted to the Ph.D. in political science program at the University of Michigan, which I can only think had something to do with my participation in the Fulbright program,” she said.Class of 2014 alumnus Marcus Liddell, another 2014-15 Fulbright recipient, also received an English teaching assistantship, although he currently resides in Germany, working at a secondary school teaching grades 7-12.Liddell said he decided to apply for the Fulbright grant due to his interest in education and his pursuit of a degree in German and minor in education, schooling and society.“My summer jobs had been education-related,” he said. “I had studied abroad in Germany for a semester, and I had spent a week while I was there shadowing teachers at a local high school, so I had some evidence that this was the kind of thing I’d like to be doing with or without a fellowship.”After returning from study abroad in Berlin, Liddell said he was almost fluent in German.“I felt like I needed more time in Germany to really become comfortable speaking the language, and that was something that was really important to me,” he said.Beyond that, Liddell said he already knew a little bit about education in Germany and was interested in getting a closer, first-hand look at how the system worked.“It was an easy choice from both the standpoint of improving my German and the standpoint of getting some practical experience as an educator,” he said. With about 12 to 14 lessons a week, Liddell said, for the most part, he does all the teaching. He said he spends his time outside of the classroom traveling, working in the community with sports and other activities and pursuing a research project.“I’ve started [to] run a couple after-school clubs and helped out with a number of shorter-term projects,” he said. “… When the weather gets a little nicer here, I’d like to start a small touch rugby league at my school.”Liddell said students interested in a Fulbright should consider the application process early and work with an advisor.“Decide if the things you want to do fit with what the Fulbright is offering,” he said. “If you’re a good fit in your mind, if you’re not just curious, but truly passionate, then you should consider applying.”Applications for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program are assisted in a joint effort between the CUSE and the Graduate School, Thibert said. Undergraduates interested in learning more should visit CUSE National Fellowships online at http://fellows.nd.edu, and graduate/professional students and alumni should contact Dr. Mike Westrate at [email protected]“As we send more Fulbright recipients around the world, they raise the University’s global profile, which will help us to continue to bring the best international students to the University while fostering productive international academic collaborations,” Thibert said.Tags: Fulbright, fulbright grants, fulbright scholar awards, Fulbright Scholars, Fulbright U.S. Student Program, Jeffrey T Ten students from Notre Dame were awarded Fulbright grants for the 2014-15 program, ranking the University as a top-producing institution of grant recipients.
The MV-22 Osprey has been employed to support troops in combat since 2007 and is the main assault support aircraft used by the U.S. Marine Corps. The Hindu festival traditionally ends with devotees leading massive processions to the Arabian Sea to immerse elaborately decorated figurines of the much-loved elephant god into the water. But this year’s celebrations are expected to be muted, with authorities in the virus-plagued city urging people to mark the 10-day festival at home in a bid to ensure social distancing.”As our pottery sales dwindled, I decided to make Ganesha statues… as a means of survival and also to promote environmentally friendly [alternatives],” 40-year-old Galwani told AFP.Activists have long criticized the practice of immersing the idols in the sea, arguing it contributes to water pollution, and Galwani agrees. Topics : Since the coronavirus pandemic clobbered his pottery business, one Muslim artisan from India’s largest slum has turned to a Hindu god to revive his fortunes by making environmentally friendly Ganesha idols for an upcoming festival.Potter Yusuf Zakaria Galwani works with his two brothers in the Mumbai shanty town of Dharavi to create 13-inch-tall statues out of terracotta clay, counting on the god — who is revered as the remover of obstacles — to give his business a much-needed boost ahead of the celebrations.Ganesh Chaturthi — which kicks off on Saturday — is embraced with gusto in India’s financial hub. “Every year, we see huge Ganesha statues made from plaster of Paris washing up on the shores after the immersion. This affects our local environment and marine life as well,” he said. His clay creations are designed to disintegrate quickly and turn into soil. They also contain a seed inside which can germinate if watered like a plant.Sold for 1,500 rupees ($20) each, Galwani has received orders for 800 statues so far and hopes to see his neighborhood bounce back economically after tackling the virus.Made famous by the 2008 Oscar-winner “Slumdog Millionaire”, Dharavi was thrown back into the spotlight in April over fears that the lack of social distancing or sanitation in its densely packed streets would make it an easy target for the virus. But a sharp focus on testing accompanied by tough quarantine and lockdown measures have seen infections plunge across the slum. “Previously I lost business as customers were wary of stepping into the slums,” Galwani said. “Now, things have changed and they’re willing to even come and pick up their own orders.” A third-generation potter, he said he saw no conflict in practicing his faith while catering to the needs of Hindu worshippers. “What’s the big deal if I am a Muslim making statues of Hindu deities like Ganesha? India is a secular democracy and we have grown up with many cultures living together,” Galwani added. Although officials have not issued an outright ban on sea immersions this year, they have imposed restrictions on local celebrations. Devotees are barred from making public offerings to the deity and organizers have been ordered to sanitize any outdoor marquees several times a day. India has registered over 2.6 million infections — the third-highest in the world — with western Maharashtra state, of which Mumbai is the capital, responsible for a fifth of coronavirus cases nationwide. Pandemic deaths across the country passed 50,000 on Monday.

A new project has been announced to reduce the potential environmental impact of future mining by making exploration for deep-seafloor mineral deposits much more effective. ‘Project ULTRA’ has been funded by the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC), and will be led by Professor Bramley Murton at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC).Deep-seafloor mineral deposits can provide vital new metals for emerging technologies, including those that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Many deposits were formed by hot springs on the seafloor and the vast majority of these now lie under a blanket of marine sediment. The big question facing geologists is whether these buried mineral deposits still contain valuable metals – have the minerals dissolved since they formed thousands of years ago beneath the Earth’s crust, or become even more concentrated?‘Project ULTRA’ will address these questions using a robotic drilling rig to drill the deposits – this will also generate the first three dimensional image of the deposits, using scientific instruments on the surrounding seafloor to listen to vibrations from the drill as it bores through the seafloor. The boreholes will then be sealed and returned to a year later, when fluids will be tapped-off from the plugs to test for reactions deep inside the deposit, NOC explained. The rock core taken by the drill, and these fluid samples, will reveal the composition and structure of these types of mineral deposit, their sub-seafloor fluid pathways, alteration of the host rock, and the preservation processes of their ore minerals.By using this information to identify where the most valuable metals are located in the deposit, Project ULTRA will help ensure any future exploitation would be able to minimize the disturbance to the seafloor and its surrounding environment. This project forms part of the NOC’s ongoing research into seafloor resources and is a collaboration with the British Geological Survey (BGS), the Universities of Southampton, Cardiff and Leeds, Memorial University in Canada, as well as Oxford Museum, GEOMAR, Nautilus Minerals, VNIIOkeangeologia from Russia, and SMD.
Share HealthLifestyleLocalNews Soursop Fruit 100 Fold Stronger At Killing Cancer Than Chemotherapy by: – March 17, 2012 Share Share Tweet Sharing is caring! 50 Views no discussions The fruit’s extracts from Annona muricata tree selectively inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cells. The Soursop is a flowering, evergreen tree native to tropical regions of the world. It also contains a long, prickly green fruit which happens to kill cancer up to 10,000 times more effectively than strong chemotherapy drugs, all without the nasty side effects and withour harming healthy cells.According to Cancer Research UK, Annona muricata is an active principle in an herbal remedy marketed under the brand name Triamazon. The licensing for this product in the UK is not accepted due to its enormous healing effects on the body and potential loss of profits for competing pharmaceutical cancer drugs. This tree is low and is called graviola in Brazil, guanabana in Spanish and has the uninspiring name “soursop” in English. The fruit is very large and the subacid sweet white pulp is eaten out of hand or, more commonly, used to make fruit drinks and sherbets. Besides being a cancer remedy, graviola is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent for both bacterial and fungal infections, is effective against internal parasites and worms, lowers high blood pressure and is used for depression, stress and nervous disorders. Deep within the Amazon Rainforest, this tree grows wild and could literally revolutionize what you, your doctor, and the rest of the world thinks about cancer treatment and chances of survival. Research shows that with extracts from this miraculous tree it now may be possible to: * Attack cancer safely and effectively with an all-natural therapy that does not cause extreme nausea, weight loss and hair loss * Protect your immune system and avoid deadly infections * Feel stronger and healthier throughout the course of the treatment * Boost your energy and improve your outlook on lifeThe source of this information is just as stunning: It comes from one of America’s largest drug manufacturers, the fruit of over 20 laboratory tests conducted since the 1970’s. What those tests revealed was nothing short of mind numbing…Extracts from the tree were shown to:* Effectively target and kill malignant cells in 12 types of cancer, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreatic cancer. * The tree compounds proved to be up to 10,000 times stronger in slowing the growth of cancer cells than Adriamycin, a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug! * What’s more, unlike chemotherapy, the compound extracted from the Graviola tree selectively hunts down and kills only cancer cells. It does not harm healthy cells! The amazing anti-cancer properties of the Graviola tree have been extensively researched–so why haven’t you heard anything about it?The drug industry began a search for a cancer cure and their research centered on Graviola, a legendary healing tree from the Amazon Rainforest. It turns out the drug company invested nearly seven years trying to synthesize two of the Graviola tree’s most powerful anti-cancer ingredients. If they could isolate and produce man-made clones of what makes the Graviola so potent, they’d be able to patent it and make their money back. Alas, they hit a brick wall. The original simply could not be replicated. There was no way the company could protect its profits–or even make back the millions it poured into research. As the dream of huge profits evaporated, their testing on Graviola came to a screeching halt. Even worse, the company shelved the entire project and chose not to publish the findings of its research!Preventdisease.com

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has expressed his big admiration for FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi ahead of their 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League duel. The Argentina captain is playing against the Bavarians in a match which could however condemn the Catalans to a season without titles. The sides meet in a one-legged quarter-final on Friday.“I have a lot of respect for this player. He has something that possibly no one else on this planet has. He can decide a game on his own,” Rummenigge told reporters. The former German captain added: “He’s a player that you have to watch closely and from whom you also have to take some of the fun out of the game.“He’s a player who wants to have fun with football. If you take a little of that fun away from him by trying to take him out of the game tactically, then there is a good chance for Bayern Munich.”Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona have each won the elite event five times. They are the only ex-champions in the eight-team field for the Lisbon mini-tournament, which was to open later Wednesday and runs until August 23.Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka said the only way to stop Messi is “collectively.”“Everyone knows what a gifted footballer he is. He is capable of finding many solutions also in tight situations. We will have to fight back as a team,” Goretzka said.“Whether you can actually take away his fun in the game, I don’t know.”Messi has not much fun this season as Barca had to settle for second in the league behind arch rivals Real Madrid and they also did not make it to the Spanish Cup final. “Everything has been bad since January,” Messi said, adding that Barca had been “an inconsistent, bad team.”Barca appear more dependent on the now 33-year-old than ever before, as shown in the 3-1 last 16 win over Napoli where he scored one goal and set up another.Neither Ernesto Valverde and his successor Quique Setien have been accepted as a leading coach by the club’s stars. There is also unrest at the top of the club around the upcoming presidential elections.RelatedPosts Bayern Munich fans undergo Super Cup coronavirus tests Vidal lands in Milan to complete move from Barca to Inter Barca president Bartomeu says he won’t go to war anymore with Messi Expensive signings over recent years such as Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho have struggled, and Antoine Griezmann is also yet to show his full potential at Barca. That leaves only Messi, who has been at the centre of transfer gossip that he could leave for Inter Milan next year.He now wants to win the event he has scored 115 goals in for the fifth time.“Anything is possible with this Messi,” a sports newspaper said.dpa/NAN.Tags: Bayern MunichFC BarcelonaKarl-Heinz RummeniggeLionel MessiUEFA Champions League

Hanuma Vihari smashed his maiden Test century.Ishant Sharma also scored his first Test fifty.Ishant and Vihari shared a 112-run stand for the eighth wicket. New Delhi: West Indies bowlers were looking to capitalise with the second new ball on day 2 of the Sabina Park Test. Jason Holder gave them a good start by dismissing Rishabh Pant for 27 but Hanuma Vihari found magnificent support from Ishant Sharma and the duo stitched a 112-run stand for the eighth wicket. Ishant scored his maiden fifty in his 126th Test innings while Vihari finally scored his maiden century. Speaking after the match, Vihari said the credit for his maiden ton should go to Ishant who batted with confidence. “Happy that I got a century and credit should go to Ishant. He looked more like a batsman today than me. The way he was going, we kept discussing what the bowler was doing and his experience really helped. My dad passed away when I was 12 so ever since, I have decided that when I play international cricket I want to dedicate my first hundred to him. When I was batting overnight on 42, I did not sleep really well as my thoughts were obviously running on how to get a big score today. I’m really happy that I could get my first hundred, especially on those conditions. It gives me a lot of satisfaction,” Vihari said. The right-hander had said that although India scored 416, the scoreboard did not reflect how well West Indies bowled. “I was batting at 84 during lunchtime, then it took me hard to get to the nineties. We have to give credit to the bowlers as well. Even though we scored 416 runs that do not show the way they bowled,” Vihari said. Also Read | Jason Holder Breaks THIS Massive Record Of Sir Gary Sobers To Script History For West IndiesVihari and Ishant’s partnership helped India cross 400 and Jasprit Bumrah used the pitch to good effect to take 6/16 in nine overs of brilliant fast bowling. “Especially for the youth in track and field because I think injury has always been a problem for youth coming up, and I also would like them to get better care. I also would like to stick with the track and field and stay as close as possible to track and field, so that’s one thing,” he explained of his retirement plans. Bolt was responding to questions on his first day on the job as Digicel’s chief speed officer, at the Digicel’s regional headquarters, downtown Kingston. The iconic sprinter, widely regarded as one of the greatest ever, said, “I will also be working with Digicel to make sure I keep the high standards of the past.” He stressed that it was important to leave the sport while on top. “For me, I have done everything I wanted to do. I have accomplished all my goals. When you accomplish all your goals, there’s no reason to stick around in a sport when you don’t have the drive, or you don’t have no more goals. You should just leave the sport,” he pointed out. BETTER CARE Nine-time Olympic gold medallist, Usain Bolt, says upon retirement, he will be giving back to the sport, as he looks to open a sports clinic here in Jamaica. The world’s fastest man of all time, who has been unbeaten over three successive Olympics, will now turn his attention to the IAAF World Championships in London next year, after which he is expected to retire officially from the sport, at age 31. Bolt is the only track and field athlete to defend his Olympic titles at three successive Games. “I have reached the top of the Olympics, and I think it’s time for me to get out of the sport and help in any other way I can possibly help, so that’s what I am gonna do,” he reasoned. When asked by The Gleaner if he saw his career reaching the dizzying heights it has, Bolt said hard work and belief paid off. “I have outdone myself. As a country boy growing up, I never thought that I would be at this level, and it’s just one thing my dad always told me – to work for what I wanted, and that’s what I did throughout the years with everything I won,” he outlined. “I just kept on setting goals for myself, and I have outdone myself, and I feel proud and happy with what I have done,” said the athlete from Sherwood Content, Trelawny. “One of the things that I am working towards is trying to open a Sports clinic in Jamaica. That’s one thing that’s always on my mind,” he told the media.

Young people and key stakeholders gathered at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Letterkenny on the 8th of May to discuss the mental health services in the CHO 1 area. The event was held with an aim to engage with young people, HSE staff, community and voluntary groups working with young people and to discuss services in the CHO 1 area and to inform the CHO 1 Mental Health Services Reform funding application to Genio.Rural access and early intervention were among the issues identified as key priorities locally. Grace Diver, 20, who is from Moville, Co. Donegal is a youth advocate from the Rural Resource Centre.Grace spoke at a conference last year in the Radisson Blu Hotel about her own mental health issues and the services and has since partnered with the HSE to make a change in the services for young people.Grace Diver, MovilleGrace shared her views on what needs to be done to improve the services and wellbeing of young people in Donegal, “I’m from east Inishowen myself so the services are quite far away for young people and they aren’t easily accessed and there’s the lack of transport. So what I would like to see is the services coming out into the small communities and into the small areas to give better access and better support for young people. I think it would make a massive difference.”HSE Youth Mental Health seminar Radisson Letterkenny. L to R, Picture 3: L-R Lorraine Kirwan, Margaret Ann O Leary, Sinead Fallon. Photo Clive WassonThe event had a lot of people giving their ideas and thoughts on what can be done in the plans ahead for the future of the youth that are struggling with their mental health and who need more accessible care. When asked about her thoughts on the event, Grace said, “This is the second conference now I’ve been with other young people and other opinions and things like that. We have definitely come a long way with the HSE and we can start to see things moving and things start changing so it’s just about getting there and achieving that.”HSE Youth Mental Health seminar Radisson Letterkenny. L to R, Naomi Finn, Patricia O Dowd, Damien McSharry, Una Mc Ginley, Marguerite Cryan, Trish Kane Photo Clive WassonOne main strategy that is trying to be fully implemented is early intervention so that young people can get the help they need at an earlier age rather than later on in life when the issue has grown. Grace also shared her thoughts on this strategy to combat mental health: “Early intervention is the key to stopping people before it gets too far and then they need more help whereas if we had early intervention maybe all people need is one to one support and just learning how to look after themselves and self-help and self-care. Then there is the need, if it needs to go further, for young people if they are suffering more than intended but one to one support and just having someone there would be a big step.”B Row: L to R, Sharon Ferguson (Peer Support Facilitator), Teresa Dykes (General Manager, CHO1 Mental Health Services), Ita Madden (Mental Health Service Coordinator for Travellers CHO1), Patrick Nwaokorie (Area Lead Mental Health Engagement CHO 1), Sinead Fallon (Peer Support Facilitator), Sean Mc Grory (Youth/Young Adult Mental Health Development Manager) Trish Kane (Housing Coordination – Mental Health CHO1). Drumkeen came into the game in excellent form having opened their season with back to back wins while Rovers – without a game in two weeks due to their postponed fixture against Bonagee United last week – had started their league campaign with a victory at home to Finn Harps. Both sides looked at near full strength and the best chance of the first half fell the way of Rovers striker Davitt Walsh who latched onto a precise through pass from Aaron Scanlon only to blaze his effort over the crossbar. The visitors applied pressure from a few set piece situations but the Rovers rearguard held firm. In the second half, Drumkeen tried their luck from long range with Richie Moore and Mark Marley both missing the target while at the other end substitute Steve Okapu steered a close range effort wide.In the final minute, the visitors forced two corners and from the second the home defence was found wanting as Kelly’s faint effort did enough to beat Shane O’Gara and seal the win.LETTERKENNY ROVERS – Shane O’Gara, Dale Gorman, Dan O’Donnell, Kieran Gorman, Jonathan Minnock, Chris Malseed, Kevin McGrath, Glen Gallagher, Davitt Walsh, Darren McElwaine, Aaron Scanlon. REFEREE – Mr. Con McLaughlinCockhill Keep Up The PressureCockhill Celtic 2Swilly Rovers 1Played in perfect conditions at the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds on Friday night, Cockhill claimed a vital come-from-behind win against a gallant and well organised Swilly team.Cockhill started the brighter with Derek Doherty especially prominent on the right hand side. However they couldn’t convert this possession into clear chances with Doherty’s crosses being well defended or cut out by Swilly keeper Gareth Wade. Swilly settled and looked dangerous on the counter attack, their first chance coming on 17mins when Kyle Black’s volley from the edge of the box went straight at Gavin Cullen. Swilly took the lead on 19mins when good interplay on the right hand side released Ronan Curtis. His cross finding the unmarked Michael McHugh who headed home at the back post. Cockhill equalised on 23mins when a headed back pass was intercepted by James Bradley who held off a defender before slotting low past Wade from 8 yards. The remainder of the half was an even affair. Swilly almost regained the lead on 25mins when Laurence Toland’s corner found McHugh, whose near post header clipped the bar on its way over. On 29mins, Derek Doherty’s cross found Garbhan Friel, but he was unable to direct his header on target. On 35mins, Friel blocked down a clearance and broke through but Wade made a fine smothering save to deny him. The last chance of the half fell to Swilly. Declan Curtis’ free kick was parried by Cullen. From the resultant corner, Cullen’s punch was volleyed goal wards by Ronan Curtis but he was denied by a brilliant low save from Cullen. The second half began in a similar vein with Cockhill pressing with Swilly dangerous on the counter. Cockhill were reduced to shots from distance, the most notable of which was Liam O’Donnell’s deflected effort forcing a fine low save from Wade. Swilly had 2 chances to regain the lead mid-half. On 70mins, Michael McHugh’s cross found Declan Curtis. His effort beat Cullen but Conor Keddy was on hand with a fantastic goal-line clearance. On 74mins, a long ball found McHugh in the clear but his attempted lob was straight at Cullen. Swilly were made to rue these missed opportunities on 75mins when Wade misjudged a James Bradley free kick. William O’Connor’s anticipation allowed him to head back across goal for Aidan O’Donnell to bundle home from close range. Swilly’s task was made harder when they were reduced to 10 men on 78mins, when defender Laurence Toland was red-carded for foul and abusive language. Cockhill continued to press for a third goal but efforts from Gerard McLaughlin and Aidan O’Donnell failed to find the target. Swilly, to their credit, competed to the end but any long balls were capably dealt with by Cullen.Champions Get WinBonagee Utd. 2Derry City Res. 4Bonagee UnitedThree goals in the final ten minutes from the reigning champions, Derry City, ensured they left Bonagee with all three points and inflicted defeat on a home side that have conceded late goals in their first two league outings this season. Bonagee got off to the best possible start when they scored as early as the 6th minute. An Anthony Appiah corner was not fully dealt with by Derry City, and Darren Ashmore was on hand to bundle the ball home from six yards through a swarm of people. Derry equalised in the 19th minute, when a corner was swung to the back post to Paul Ramsey, and he somehow managed to head the ball back into the danger area where George Kelly smashed the ball to the roof of the net to make the score one apiece. The home side regained their lead on the stroke of half time, when defender Glenn Rainey sidefooted home at the second attempt following a good cross from Appiah. The visitors began the second forty five well but were finding a resolute Bonagee defence difficult to break through. They managed to draw level in the 80th minute, a goal they certainly were worthy of. The excellent Josh Treacy raced into the area and his pull back was slotted home by Conor Harkin. City were definitely in the ascendency at this point of the game and they managed to score their third with two minutes to go. Treacy again was the provider, this time his cross was powered home by Raymond Foy. The fourth was scored in the 94th minute by substitute Kyle Curran after a mix-up in the Bonagee defence.Bonagee: Smyth, Rainey, Doran, Frankowski, O’Loan, Appiah, Russell, Lynagh, Ashmore, McLaughlin & McGeeDerry City: Houghton, O’Brien, Curran, Barrett, Barr, Foy, McElhinney, Ramsey, Kelly, Harkin, TreacyFixturesThursday, May 31st at 7:30pm4 Lanterns USLSwilly Rovers v Fanad Utd. Read on to learn more about Jimdo.Jimdo’s origins lie in a farmhouse in Germany. The startup’s three young founders, Christian Springub, Fridtjof Detzner, and Matthias Henze, started working there together in 2004 on NorthClick, an enterprise-level site editing service. As more and more people asked the team for the same service for personal sites, the tech used in NorthClick became the backbone of Jimdo. This year, the 750,000th Jimdo-powered site went live. With the uniquely flexible nature of the content on Jimdo sites, “Athletes [can] report their latest success, bands publish tour dates, or parents upload the latest pictures of their children,” according to the company’s site.“Furthermore, any kind of widget can be integrated in the Jimdo page: weather, news ticker, music player – there is no limit for the users’ imagination.”Free pages are simple to create, regardless of the level of coding experience. Noobs can easily navigate through the slick GUI to add modular content elements, and CSS pros can drill down for the exact look and feel – and function – they require. And the new media junkies can channel information from all their feeds into the site. The free pages also allow for in-site blogging through a simple CMS, or users can import their existing blogs through RSS feeds or WordPress export files. Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the quarter-finals of the ongoing $1,250,000 Indonesia Open BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament after defeating Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt in her second round match on Thursday.Fifth-seed Sindhu, who is eyeing her first title of the season, defeated Blichfeldt 21-14, 17-21, 21- 11 in a match that lasted for 62 minutes. The Hyderabadi shuttler was at her absolute best, winning the first game 21-14 without any hiccup in just 18 minutes. However, the Denmark player made a strong comeback in the second game and made Sindhu toil hard for her points during the course of the 23-minute game. Blichfeldt ultimately won the game 21-17, thus pushing the match into the third game.In the final game, Sindhu, however, made sure she didn’t give her opponent any chance and won 21-11 to progress to the third round of the tournament. However, there was disappointment in the men’s doubles event as the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty bowed out of the competition after losing in straight games to Indonesia’s Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo. The Indian pair, which saw off Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin 21-19, 18-21, 21-19 in their opening match, lost 15-21, 14-21 to the Indonesian top seeds in the second round contest which lasted less than 30 minutes. Also Read | Indonesia Open: HS Prannoy, B Sai Praneeth crash out in opening roundAlso See:

It was a great hit but he shouldn’t have been allowed to get the shot away.”Two or three of that line up won’t be at the club come the start of pre-season.”I don’t want to name names but we all know who they are. Monday night underlined that they need to be replaced.”Klopp gave an opportunity to some senior pros who have been waiting for their chance but they wasted it.”I didn’t see players showing they were willing to run through a brick wall for the club. They played within themselves and that’s not good enough.”Hoever and fellow youngsters Curtis Jones and Rafa Camacho needed help but they got very little.”You certainly couldn’t attach any blame to the young lads. Drivers on Highway 102 should soon have a smoother ride thanks to a road-paving tender called today, Jan. 17, by the province. The Department of Transportation and Public Works called for tenders to repave the northbound lanes of Highway 102 from Shortts Lake for 10.5 kilometres to the Irwin Road overpass. The project is to be completed this summer. “This is one of the province’s busiest sections of highway and it’s important that we keep it in tip-top shape,” said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. “By tendering this job now, we’re helping the contractor get an early start on it in the spring.” The Department of Transportation and Public Works’ highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
VANCOUVER – On the heels of his narrow victory in Vancouver’s dramatic mayoral race, observers say Kennedy Stewart’s biggest challenge will be leading a council fractured across party lines as he tries to deliver on platform promises like increasing housing supply. The former NDP MP, who ran as an Independent, will lead 10 councillors divided across four parties with an even split between progressives and members of the right-leaning Non-Partisan Association.Vancouver is one of the few cities in Canada that operates on a party system.“We’re going to need a new civic engineer who knows how to build bridges and not walls,” said Andy Yan, director of the City Program at Simon Fraser University. That could mean making strategic compromises and more open dialogue in council chambers instead of behind caucus doors, he said. While Kennedy’s platform included a subway line extension and new approaches to fighting the opioid crisis, his primary campaign focus has been clear: Housing. Among his plans on the file are immediately hiring a renters’ advocate and increasing supply by 85,000 new units, including 25,000 non-profit rentals, over 10 years.Following his victory, Kennedy told reporters he wants the conversation to move beyond housing by the end of his four-year term. He said he’s confident he can do so by working with all members of council.“I’ve been talking with them all the way through, all the way through this race and I think there are ideas we share in common and we’re just going to have to go policy by policy and make sure we’re not alienating anyone. I’m confident we can do it,” Stewart told reporters following his victory speech.Patrick Smith, a political science and urban systems professor at Simon Fraser University, said the upcoming federal election will likely work in Stewart’s favour as the federal Liberals court votes and open the coffers for public projects.“He may be astute enough to be able to produce some initiatives on the housing front,” Smith said, adding that will require building alliances.Stewart edged out contender Ken Sim of the NPA to win the election with a lead of fewer than 1,000 votes in the race to replace outgoing Mayor Gregor Robertson, who did not run for re-election.Robertson’s party Vision Vancouver entered the race weak, with its mayoral candidate Ian Campbell bowing out days before the nomination deadline. It won no seats on council.Smith said it all but marks the end of the party after 10 years in power.“It’s the old adage, never say never in politics. But we’re going to say a very strong maybe,” Smith said.Meantime, the Green party saw significant gains, winning three of 10 councillor seats. Two of its candidates, incumbent Adriane Carr and Pete Fry, each won more votes than Stewart or Sim.“It’s in one way a Green sweep in Vancouver. I think it also reflects values. At the core of it, Vancouver still acknowledges the importance of sustainability,” he said, even if voters disagreed with Vision’s strategy for achieving it.Sim has not conceded the election, saying after results came in early Sunday morning that more votes needed to be counted and he would seek advice in the coming days. The NPA did not immediately respond to requests for comment Sunday afternoon.
Rabat – Government Chief Abdelilah Benkirane chaired, here Wednesday, the signing ceremony of the documents related to the investment contracts concerning the Safi thermal power plant at a total cost of 2.6 billion dollars (around 23 billion dirhams). The plant, the largest in Morocco, will provide an annual production covering around 25 percent of the national electricity demand by 2018, with an aggregate capacity of approximately 1,386 MW.This latest-generation plant, which is part of the national strategy to meet the growing electricity at the lowest cost and the environmental demand, is characterized by optimizing the environmental performance and efficiency high in comparison with conventional plants. It will enable a significant reduction in CO 2 and a reduction in costs associated with fuel. The plant will be built by the OEM South Korean Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. The construction contract thereto, an amount of 1.8 billion U.S. dollars, was signed on August 9, 2013 between the manufacturer and the company SAFIEC.From the beginning of its construction, and throughout the period of its operation, the plant will contribute significantly to the dynamics of economic and social development of the Kingdom, and particularly that of the region of Safi and this, particularly in terms of job creation and use of the services of local SMEs.It will also allow the development of existing or under construction port, rail and power infrastructure, including the new port of Safi to house the coal dock that will supply the plant with coal and the construction works were initiated by King Mohammed VI in April 2013.The commercial operation of the plant will begin in 2017.
Rabat – The Saudi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf said that Arab countries must remain united in the face of global challenges, at a meeting of the Arab League Executive Council on March 30 in Tunis. The threat posed by Iran is the biggest challenge for the Arabs, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Assaf said Friday.“One of the most dangerous forms of terrorism and extremism is what Iran’s… blatant interference in Arab affairs and its militias… the Revolutionary Guards in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen, who require us to work together,” he said. Al-Assaf also spoke about his county’s “balanced relations and contacts on the international scene.” Saudi Arabia “coordinates positions with Arab countries to positively influence the causes of the Arab world on the international stage,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted Al-Assaf as saying.Al-Assaf said that Saudi Arabia supports the Skhirat agreement, signed in December 2015. The agreement is “a road map for the political solution to the Libyan crisis”, he said.On March 26, King Salman received Marshal Khalifa Haftar on a two-day visit to Riyadh. Haftar had announced, in December 2017, the “end” of the Skhirat agreement which provided for the formation of the Government of National Unity. According to Haftar, “All the bodies stemming from this agreement lost their legitimacy.”On March 28, Rabat sent an indirect message to Riyadh about the situation in Libya.Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said that coordination between allies should be “two-way. It should not be on demand. It should cover all the important issues in the Middle East as in North Africa, like the Libyan crisis.”

Michel Forst, Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Haiti, said that “it is necessary to strengthen the institutions of the Republic in order to improve the process of policy making and the relationship between the State and citizens.”Mr. Forst told reporters that strengthening these institutions will give them the means and resources to carry out the mandates entrusted to them. This was the 12th visit to Haiti for the expert, who will present his report to the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council on 20 March. During his mission, he met with a range of actors, including government officials, lawyers, mayors, the leadership of the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and representatives of civil society. After visiting the prisons of Gonaïves, Jeremie, Saint Marc and Port de Paix, Mr. Forst noted that overcrowding in detention centres is still a major problem and it constitutes cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. He stressed that resolving this problem must include addressing the issue of prolonged pre-trial detention. The expert also noted that the holding of a fair trial in the case of former President Jean-Claude Duvalier is important to show the population that justice works in Haiti, and that impunity will no longer be tolerated for the most serious crimes. “The appearance of former President Jean-Claude Duvalier before the judges of the Court of Appeal in Port-au-Prince in this regard is a victory for the rule of law,” he stated.Independent experts are appointed by the Human Rights Council to examine and report back, in an unpaid capacity, on specific human rights themes.

You’ll notice in the table that Marvin Lewis — a coach pretty unlikely to be fired — is third on this list; that’s mainly because he’s been with the Bengals for 13 years and has zero playoff wins. The real world context is that while that is a broadly undesirable outcome, the Bengals being the Bengals, the team has more than exceeded the existential target of being Not The Browns. (You can see the lasting improvement that Lewis has brought to Cincinnati in the “before 2015″ column, which shows how much the team’s Elo rating improved between the time he got the job and the beginning of this season.) So Marv, like Chip, is probably fine, for reasons that are very different but just as amusing. As for Kelly, he’s in his third year of his tenure with a club, after winning zero playoff games in Years 1 and 2 — a scenario that has traditionally been the death zone for NFL coaches. Coaches in that predicament must show progress to keep their jobs: Roughly two-thirds of surviving coaches improved their team’s Elo rating (relative to preseason expectations) in Year 3, while nearly three-quarters of those fired oversaw an Elo decline from the preseason. So the Eagles’ 86.4-point Elo drop this season doesn’t look good for Kelly — since 1970, only 15 of the 128 coaches in Kelly’s position (Year 3 with a team, no previous playoff victories) oversaw a bigger drop-off in Elo through 11 games of the schedule, and two-thirds of them were fired before the following season began. John FoxCHI10—+50<1 Sometimes coaches still survive odds like Kelly’s. This table shows the coaches whose jobs were in the most jeopardy 11 games into a season yet went on to keep the job. But if Kelly does manage to stick with Philly beyond this season, he would set a new mark for unlikely job retention.Kelly’s trajectory wasn’t always so negative. After Philly beat Dallas in early November to make their record 4-4, there was only about a 5 percent chance that Kelly would be fired according to the model. But the Eagles’ current three-game losing streak has caused his probability of being fired to skyrocket: Things look bad for Chip Kelly and his Eagles. Fans are calling for his head; discord is rampant in the locker room; Kelly seems to be linked to every college job not nailed down or on fire; and the Eagles have found themselves on the receiving end of consecutive beatdowns so humiliating that mayor-turned-governor-turned-commentator Ed Rendell — a man last seen in public supplication outside a McDonald’s, begging for a McRib — was so ashamed that he hid his head in a bag. If Kelly is the NFL’s mad scientist, the lab is on fire.In the short term, Kelly is probably safe. He has two years left on his contract after 2015, and his newfound authority over Philadelphia’s roster — wrestled away from Howie Roseman in a power struggle in January — makes him a little more entrenched than your typical head coach. But the Eagles have also been one of the NFL’s most disappointing teams, by both the eye test and fancier metrics. So while Kelly the personnel czar still has some rope, we can entertain ourselves with a thought exercise wondering just how often such a disastrous season traditionally leads to a coaching change. To measure just what it takes for a coach to get fired in the NFL, I trained a classification model on data for every NFL coach since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, looking for the factors that predict whether he’ll return the following season. The best model, in terms of having the lowest “out-of-bag error,” accounts for how long a coach has been with his team, the team’s outlook going into the season, and how many playoff wins the coach has recorded during his tenure with the team. Coaches are typically given more leeway early, with firings peaking three to six years into their tenures, and unsurprisingly, playoff wins buy more job security. We used our Elo ratings as a proxy for team outlook; whatever you think of its predictive capabilities, Elo is a fantastic gauge of team perception and expectations.According to that historical rubric, no current coach1So, excluding Joe Philbin and Ken Whisenhunt, both of whom were fired earlier this season. should be feeling the heat more than Kelly, whose indicators have traditionally led to termination a shade over half the time (through 11 games): Gus BradleyJAX30+8-1851 Mike McCoySD31+32-1055 Neill Armstrong1980CHI22 Sean PaytonNO96+94-7619 Bill O’BrienHOU20+120+10<1 Jack Del RioOAK10—+37<1 Gary KubiakDEN10—+66<1 Sam Wyche1994TB30 Jim CaldwellDET20+66-645 John Mazur1971NE29 Rex RyanBUF10—-22<1 Jeff FisherSTL40+124-5613 Chip KellyPHI30+144-8652% Lovie SmithTB20-59+4517 COACHYEARTEAMCHANCE OF FIRING John HarbaughBAL810+117-741 Marvin LewisCIN130+184+10140 Dave McGinnis2002ARI21 Bruce AriansARI30+120+125<1 Tom CoughlinNYG128+81+217 Andy ReidKC30+185+841 Todd BowlesNYJ10—+34<1 Jay GrudenWAS20-28+55<1 Mike TomlinPIT95-6+24 Jim Hanifan1983CRD26 ELO CHANGE There’s still time for Kelly to turn things around. For one, the average coach who was fired since 1970 was assigned a 76 percent probability by the model at this stage of the season, so Kelly, at 52 percent, has some room left to fall. Second, despite their abiding awfulness, the Eagles somehow have a 15 percent chance of winning the NFC East, which would put a little shine on the turd. Although one of the most similar coaching seasons to Kelly’s2In terms of the arc his probability of being fired has taken each week. resulted in Wade Phillips being fired by the Denver Broncos in 1994, other similar years belonged to coaches who held on for another year (Bruce Coslet with the 1993 Jets) or even unexpectedly went to a Super Bowl a year later (Jim Fassel with the 2000 Giants). However the season plays out, Kelly will probably hang onto his job — particularly given the personnel control matter we mentioned earlier. But based on what typically gets coaches fired, Kelly should be thankful that he’ll (probably) remain employed when the smoke clears on this garbage fire, because historical precedent says it should pretty much be a coin flip whether he gets swept out with the ashes.
Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) and Clarion have jointly developed an overview monitoring system to support operator safety checks surrounding machinery. The system enables synthesized images taken from several cameras mounted on mining earthmovers to be shown on a display from the operator’s seat. The system has already completed basic performance tests using a prototype.Future plans call for commercialising the system to conform with the specifications of HCM’s mining trucks and ultra-large hydraulic excavators by spring 2012.Based on the development of in-vehicle compact camera technology promoted by Clarion under the concept of supporting safe, secure and comfortable driving, the overview monitoring system featuring several wide-angle cameras will be fitted on the machines. The images taken from respective cameras will be converted and synthesized and shown on a display from the operator’s seat as a bird’s-eye view focused on the machine. In addition to the proximity of machinery, the operator can switch to ‘zoom display’ and ‘wide display’ in accordance with machinery needs requiring wide-area monitoring. With this functionality, operators can quickly comprehend situations surrounding their vehicle, such as the positions of other machines or service vehicles.HCM has been continuously promoting initiatives to enhance on-site safety. In 2001, the company launched a rear monitoring system that comprises a rear-view camera and display from the operator’s seat as optional equipment for hydraulic excavators. In 2006, HCM introduced this system as, it says, “the world’s first standard equipment on all hydraulic excavators that are 6.5 t or larger. The overview monitoring system, which has been developed in collaboration with Hitachi Group companies, is expected to significantly contribute to operational safety on site.System Overview(Example of mining dump truck equipped with overview monitoring system)[Components]Four cameras (FrontRight sideLeft sideRear)Image synthesis controller (inside operator’s compartment)Display (inside operator’s compartment).
Our diasporaFrom Mary Robinson lighting a symbolic candle in the window in 1990 to the 2002 Taskforce Report on Ireland and the Irish Abroad, a succession of recent Irish governments have made increasing efforts to establish a ‘Diaspora engagement policy’. Those currently running the country, and accused of running people out of it, are no exception. The Emigrant Support Programme (ESP), which funds almost 200 Irish community organisations in over 20 countries, has not suffered a significant budget cut in three years. Irish groups ranging from those providing support for the elderly abroad and the newly arrived to GAA clubs and other culture and heritage organisations have received grants of over €104 million from the ESP since 2004.In recent years organisations in Canada and Australia, such as the new Irish Canadian Immigration Centre in Toronto, have received additional funding in light of the large numbers of new Irish migrants seeking work in these countries. While the ESP budget falls well short of recommendations made in 2002 in a State Taskforce Report on Policy Regarding Emigrants— and the commitment made on the basis of that report in the 2007 Programme for Government— it is a significant step up from the paltry £250,000 offered in 1987.It is one of many such steps taken. The Irish Abroad Unit was established in 2004 to ‘provide greater strategic direction’ to the State’s engagement with the diaspora and the first Global Irish Economic forum was held in 2009. The Global Irish Network, a group of influential Irish business figures drawn from over 40 countries overseas, whose role it is to aid in the development of the Irish export market and State initiatives like the Irish Technology Leadership Group, are the direct result of the first Global Irish Economic forum and participated in the third one held just this year gone. In short, the last few years have seen a more widespread involvement of Irish communities overseas in Irish affairs than any other era in a country that has experienced many waves of emigration. An external vote for Irish emigrantsAlthough critics see Ireland’s renewal of its relations with the diaspora in a cynical light— for example, renaming the Gathering 2013 as ‘the Grabbing’— there are signs amongst the Irish overseas that these new ties are being taken seriously. As protest mounts at home against the excessive rate of emigration, those who have already left are campaigning for an external vote. A young emigrant movement called We’re Coming Back hosted ‘a toast for a vote’ on the weekend of the 20th of December; inviting participants to photograph a toast in solidarity and post it on Facebook. We’re Not Leaving, a sister campaign that aims to stem the flood of people leaving Ireland, supported the event and also demand that an external vote be accorded to Irish emigrants.Nor is it only protesters and pressure groups but politicians also are in favour of granting the Irish abroad the right to participate in elections at home. President of Sinn Féin and a long-time supporter of the overseas vote, Gerry Adams, personally endorsed We’re Coming Back while personalities such as Paul Kehoe, the Fine Gael Minister of State, and Mark Daly, Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for the Irish Overseas and Diaspora, also support extending the democratic franchise to the diaspora. As Ireland begins to recover its economy but continues to lose its youth, it looks more and more to its emigrants. Therefore, while those leaving are in the paper, in the planes and perhaps reading, it is important someone notes that they are still, more than ever before, a part of the country.David Burns works in Paris as a TA (Teaching Assistant) at La Sorbonne Nouvelle. He left Ireland after the Dublin restaurants in which he used to work, Frankie’s Steakhouse & Chatham Brasserie, both closed. David is a campaign member of We’re Coming Back, the new movement for an emigrant vote.Follow We’re Coming Back on Facebook, Twitter or email [email protected]: Operation Emigration – is the Government trying to give us the shove?Read: Irish emigrants organise worldwide toast to highlight their right to vote EMIGRATION IS A phenomenon, a potential future for thousands of young people, and a popular topic in Ireland at this time of year. Whether it’s post-holiday photos from the departure gates at Dublin Airport or articles on demographic change, whether it’s classed as a Government operation or a national sport, emigration is currently making headlines.Already a longstanding feature of Irish history, current events increasingly place it as a feature in Irish newspapers. Emigration itself places Ireland above the other EU countries; in average rates, the Old Country currently holds the highest.Irish students, interns and young people in general are either partaking in or protesting against emigration. Irish families are being separated by it. Rural areas in Ireland are being depopulated by it. Emigration is even having an effect on the property market. Small wonder then that it should feature so prominently in Irish publications and— when covering the country— in foreign press such as the Economist, the Financial Times, the Guardian, Le Monde and The New York Times. However although the current budget, which has been variously termed as seen as ‘Operation Emigration’ and ‘the Scattering,’ has provoked anti-Government protest: emigration is nothing new. The current outflow might, at times, equal but does not largely surpass the rate of people leaving Ireland in the 1950s or the 1980s. Considerably more attention is being paid to it now than then, however.

Real Monsters hasn’t been made into a comic series. The premise/plot is perfect for the medium. Think about it. Readers can join the marvelous misadventures of Ickis, Oblina, and Krumm as they go about the city trying to complete their school assignments. Each issue as a different one-shot adventure of frightening humans and epically failing or succeeding in their goal. It would be gnarly looking, comedic, gross-out funny, but in the realm of horror because that’s super important and apart of the overall vibe of the show. It’s somehow unbelievable that this hasn’t happened yet. Also, the show is set in New York City. You craft a mountain of stories with these three (or any of their classmates) in this type of setting.Clarissa Explains It Allvia kategabrielle.comThe concept is totally there to make this a YA series like nobodies business. Clarissa Explains It All helped you get through the typical usual adolescent stuff but also gave her many misadventures and lessons to figure out as she grew up. She tackled a ton of themes and small matters, but wasn’t OVERLY dramatic or had an overreaching message to them. However, making this into a YA series would broaden her explaining more stuff to the audience. Clarissa Explains It All captured children of every gender, and if made into books (or comics), it would be great for another generation to read her explain more of it. There is Clarissa novel as a reimagining of the leading lady called Thing I Can’t Explain: A Clarissa Novel. Also, very fun fact, Clarissa (Melissa Joan Hart) was the first female lead on Nickelodeon. This is not only very cool but carried a real change in the network that leads to more changes to follow. Are You Afraid of the Dark?via areyouafraidofthedark.wikia.comAre You Afraid of the Dark? would be interesting because of the anthology themed way it’s written. Created by D.J MacHale and Ned Kandel, this show featured teenagers who called themselves “The Midnight Society” as they sat around a campfire scaring each other with terrifying stories that ranged from horror, science fiction, thrillers and more. The show was truly groundbreaking in its way of telling and crafting stories. The stories would connect with the teenagers or relate to an event or just a story to be told. Think of what Goosebumps is doing through IDW and Bedtime Stories with Dark Horse. If Are You Afraid of the Dark? were to be a comic, it would be great to have it aimed towards young adults and scare them out of their wits.KABLAM!kablam.wikia.comKaBlam! was honestly this writer’s favorite show growing up in the 90’s. It was the perfect brand of sketch comedy and different animation to keep me entertained throughout its four-season run. The show had hilarious and mad regular shorts within their episodes like Sniz & Fondue, Life with Loopy, and Prometheus and Bob. You also can’t forget the best hosts and best friends Henry and June. If something like KaBlam! were to work, I’d personally love to see it in comic form. It would be insanely incredible to bring in new bonkers shorts. Honestly, I can see KaBlam! as a comic anthology that carries a team of creators that build those stories in rotation from time to time. It’s a mix of random, bizarre, funny, nonsense stories that don’t make any damn sense, but still brilliant all the same. The Mystery Files of Shelby WooJesse J. Barboza (deviantart.com/jbwarner86)This Canadian-American show slipped so many radars. The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo revolved around Shelby Woo, a teenage girl who lived with her grandfather, Mike Woo who is an innkeeper. Shelby is a smart, rambunctious and intelligent teenager who is also an intern at the police station. Shelby solves crimes with her two best friends (and two friends who replace those friends) around Cocoa Beach. It would be insanely cool if this show were reimagined as Nancy Drew mysteries for a new audience. Think about this though. Think of a tough as nails and gruff reimagining of Nancy Drew in the way Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. Call me for this pitch anytime.Legends of the Hidden TempleMathew Grigsby (grigsbyartpad.tumblr.com)Just like Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, I’m surprised no one turned Legends of the Hidden Temple into full-blown Ranger’s Apprentice-type children/YA books yet. Legends of the Hidden Temple was a game show with a criminally fascinating and inventive concept. Legends of the Hidden Temple was basically Indiana Jones for kids. Kids would have the opportunity to solve trivia puzzles, run (hop, skip, dive) through obstacle courses and go through the hidden temple for a chance to win the big prize. Legends of the Hidden Temple could work both in comic and book form. It would be the perfect opportunity to flesh some of the myth and legend out from the show. Writers and artists would be able to show the history and geography of the temple, plus do a slew of fantastic things with the myths.Gullah Gullah IslandI wanted so badly to sneak in a Nick Jr. show into the mix. They had the best storytelling that taught you so much about culture and life outside your own. One of those shows was Gullah Gullah Island. This show was a musical series that featured a family from Gullah Gullah Island. Oh yeah, they also had a frog that lived with them named Binya Binya. Before you make that face, it was a dope ass show, okay? Gullah Gullah Island taught you to be and take care of yourself while also teaching about the culture of the Gullah culture. The two stars of the show Ron and Natalie Daise were the advisors as well as the hosts of the show.It would be so wild to bring Gullah Gullah Island in the realm of comics, especially for kids comics. It would allow creators to research and teach kids about different cultures and ways of being while expanding their mind and teaching them some cool stuff along the way. Gullah Gullah Island’s theme song should play when you open the page. That song is not going to leave you for years. I guarantee it.Hey Arnoldvia heyarnold.wikia.comHey Arnold still happens to be one of those shows that feels you with all the emotions. The thing that was interesting and peaked a lot of interest from someone like me as a kid was how real it felt. There were so many moments that were hilarious, depressing and satisfying moments with the characters. It felt like they were right in your neighborhood. (Helga’s childhood episode seriously haunts me.) The many vast, admirable and wondrous stories of Arnold, Gerald, Helga, and everyone in Hillwood would be phenomenal if expanded in comics. It would allow creators to bring gut-punching stories, but balance them with funny and hopeful ones. If this happens, please prepare your feelings. While we wait for more episodes to roll in on NickSpat visit our retrospectives on Rocko’s Modern Life, Clarissa Explains it All, and Doug. Desmond McKenzie, is reporting that over $2 million in property taxes have already been collected by the mobile units, which were recently launched in Clarendon and St. Mary. He was addressing a regional sensitization session with mayors and councilors at the National Police College of Jamaica (NPCJ) in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine, on February 15.The Ministry is employing the use of the mobile units as it intensifies efforts to collect over $10 billion in outstanding property taxes. The initiative involves collaboration with Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ). “The sole purpose of working with the tax mobile is to ensure that we maximize the collection of property taxes,” Mr. McKenzie said.Meanwhile, he informed that the series of sensitization sessions, being held across the island, have been beneficial and the local government representatives are implementing what they have learned. The sessions include presentations from representatives from the Office of the Contractor General (OCG), and the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, on issues relating to procurement and award of contracts.Technical officers from the Local Government Ministry also provide information on the roles and responsibilities of elected officials.
Dan Cohen AUTHOR Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) filed cloture Thursday on the conference report for the fiscal 2016 defense authorization bill, setting up a procedural vote to limit debate most likely on Tuesday.Earlier on Thursday, the House adopted the conference report for the legislation, H.R. 1735, but not with enough votes to override a threatened veto of the bill by President Obama. House members voted 270-156 to advance the conference report, with Democratic opposition sufficient enough to sustain a veto. The House would need a two-thirds majority — at least 290 votes — to override the promised veto from the president. While the Obama administration opposes numerous provisions in the compromise legislation — including its failure to approve a BRAC round in 2017 and restrictions on closing the prison at Guantánamo Bay — the most significant objection stems from the measure’s reliance on DOD’s overseas contingency operations (OCO) account to sidestep the Budget Control Act spending caps. The bill would authorize $612 billion in national security spending, the same amount the White House requested. The measure leaves the discretionary budget caps in place, and authorizes only $496 billion for DOD’s base budget. To make up the shortfall, it shifts $38 billion in operation and maintenance funds from the base budget to DOD’s OCO account, which is not subject to the caps. The bill would authorize a total of $89 billion for that account. The White House has demanded that Congress lift the caps on both defense and non-defense spending, and return the $38 billion to DOD’s base budget.Much of the debate prior to the House vote focused on the veto threat, which Republicans criticized given that the total amount of spending authorized under the bill equals the administration’s budget request, reported CQ.“Frankly whether you call it base funding, OCO funding or pumpernickel it doesn’t matter. It is money that goes to the troops,” said House Armed Services Chair Mac Thornberry (R-Texas), who accused the White House of “playing politics.”The committee’s ranking Democrat, Adam Smith (Wash.), acknowledged the legislation was “by and large a good bill,” but said the GOP budget framework evaded the larger issue of the discretionary spending caps.“Is this good for our country? Is it good for our troops?” Smith said. “I don’t believe that it is.”

Share Hold Harmless Grace Period TRID U.S. House of Representatives 2015-10-07 Staff Writer The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to pass a bipartisan bill (303-121) that will provide a “hold harmless” grace period for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB’s) TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) Rule, which went into effect October 3.The Homebuyers Assistance Act (H.R. 3192) provides the mortgage industry with a grace period through February 1, 2016, by protecting them from enforcement actions if they make a good faith effort to comply with the TRID regulation. The Act passed through the House Financial Services Committee last week.”This bipartisan bill provides certainty to businesses that are trying to comply with the rule as well as an opportunity to work out any implementation issues that come up,” House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said. “There is no reason that CFPB regulations should prevent homebuyers from being able to buy and close on a home.”He added, “Owning a home has always been an important part of the American Dream, and government should never stop people from reaching that goal. Representative French Hill’s leadership on this bill means many Americans will be that much closer to achieving their American Dream.”The White House threatened to veto the Homebuyers Assistance Act on Tuesday, according to a Statement of Administrative Policy.”The CFPB has already clearly stated that initial examinations will evaluate good faith efforts by lenders,” the White House wrote. “The Administration strongly opposes H.R. 3192, as it would unnecessarily delay implementation of important consumer protections designed to eradicate opaque lending practices that contribute to risky mortgages, hurt homeowners by removing the private right of action for violations, and undercut the Nation’s financial stability. If the President were presented with H.R. 3192, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto the bill.””Without this bill, homebuyers could encounter delays and difficulties when they try to close on their homes. Buying a home is stressful enough, and bureaucratic delays should not add to their stress.”—Jeb HensarlingThe Credit Union National Association (CUNA) expressed their gratitude and support for the bill as credit union navigate the new TRID guidelines.“This legislation is important for credit unions as they work in good faith to comply with the TRID rule, which became effective October 3,” said Ryan Donovan, CUNA chief advocacy officer. “CUNA and other stakeholders repeatedly asked the CFPB to provide a formal hold-harmless period to ensure the rule has minimal impact on consumers and residential home mortgage closings. We thank the House for their quick action on this important issue and urge the Senate to do the same.”Rep. French Hill (R-Arkansas), sponsor of the bill, noted that the legislation was brought about to allow for more clarity on the CFPB’s TRID rule and that “the stories he and his colleagues have heard regarding efforts to comply, and lingering uncertainty on several aspects of the rule.”In addition, co-sponsor of the bill, Rep. Brad Sherman (D-California) stated, “the bill would help ensure access to mortgage credit during the hold-harmless period because it would allow small lenders to work toward full compliance without penalty.”On Tuesday, the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler stated his support for the new legislation in a letter and urged lawmakers to do the same.Thaler posed the issue of despite both the National Credit Union Association’s (NCUA’s) and the CFPB’s efforts to consider credit unions’ good faith efforts toward TRID, there are “unresolved ambiguities” within the regulation.“We thank Reps. French Hill (R-Arkansas) and Brad Sherman (D-California) for their leadership in introducing H.R. 3192 and shepherding it through the House,” Thaler said. “This legislation will erase all doubt and allow mortgage lenders to comply without fear of enforcement actions. We look forward to continuing to work with Congress to help advance the legislation. ”Click here to view to view final vote results. Out of the 303 who voted in favor of the bill, 239 were Republicans and 64 were Democrats. This summer, cricket fans will be eagerlywatching the age old rivalry between England and our southern hemisphere offspring, Australia, unfold in a number of different stadiums across the country, each with their own unique character and personality.Which one bowls you over? Can’t afford to get to The Ashes or take the time off work to travel across the country to catch a match? Check out these belters – with interesting facts and videos, you’ll feel like you’re sitting in the stands, pint in hand, with the British summer sunshine beating down on your furrowed brow as you anxiously watch your team bring in the boundaries. Here’s your chance to nosey around 12 of the world’s most famous cricket grounds.First up, five top cricket grounds in the UK:1. Lord’s, LondonCapacity: 28,000A respectable listicle about the world’s best cricket stadiums has to start with the Home of Cricket, Lord’s, and this iconic ground gets our top spot. Built in 1814 and named after Thomas Lord, the owner of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at the time, Lord’s is home for Middlesex County Cricket Club, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the European Cricket Council – MCC own and house the Ashes Urn on this hallowed turf. In its 201 year history, there have been more than 100 Test matches played here. Some of the legends of Lord’s include Graham Gooch, the highest Test run scorer at the ground with 2,015 runs, and bowler Ian Botham and his 69 wickets. Although it may be too traditional for some cricket fans, the atmosphere in this ground is truly unique during Test matches, particularly in the morning of the first Test of the summer, before everyone heads to the Lord’s Tavern for lunch and one of their British beef burgers. Even if you’re not the biggest fan of cricket, the architectural features of the stadium are worth a peek: from the Victorian pavilion to the Honours Board, and not forgetting the Old Father Time weather vane, there’s plenty of Instagram action to be had on a tea break.tps://www.youtube.com/embed/u_cyAFfzX3I2. Headingley, LeedsCapacity: 17,000Next door to Headingley Rugby Stadium, this is the epicentre of sport in Leeds. Yorkshire County Cricket Club have called Headingly home for more than 120 years and the ground has seen many spectacular sporting moments, including two triple centuries from ‘the Don’ Australia’s Sir Donald Bradman, and Botham’s legendary match-saving performance in the third Test at the Ashes in 1981. Yorkshire can also be proud of their very own Geoffrey Boycott, who scored his 100th century right here. If you think all cricket crowds are mild-mannered and beyond hooting and hollering, think again! Supporters in the Western Terrace would fit in at Wembley during an FA Cup final – well known for their enthusiastic cheering, families are best to sit elsewhere. Although it’s not the prettiest stadium, the club have recently unveiled the ‘Headingley Masterplan’, a huge renovation project to bring permanent floodlight pylons, a rebuild of the North/South Stand to increase capacity to 20,000, plus much more over the next 20 years. If you are planning a trip to Headingley for the cricket, or the rugby, then check out our article on the ten best places to eat and drink in the suburbs of Leeds.tps://www.youtube.com/embed/XYLXV_AZTKg3. Ageas Bowl, SouthamptonCapacity: 20,000Not as old as Lord’s, but every bit as legendary, the Ageas Bowl (formerly the Rose Bowl) was built in 2001 and is the home of Hampshire County Cricket Club. Something of a newbie on the cricket circuit, the stadium has already begun creating a reputation for itself as a regular fixture on England’s white-ball schedule and host of the inaugural Test match against Sri Lanka in 2011. Off the M27 in the leafy Hampshire suburbs of Southampton, it’s a great ground to spend a warm summer’s day sipping ice cold beers in their stylish stands, admiring the perfectly circular pitch. In case you have a few too many, there’s also now a 171-bedroom Hilton hotel, with spa and steak restaurant, just opened at the ground, so you’ve not got far to fall and the end of the day. 4. Edgbaston, BirminghamCapacity: 25,000The second biggest cricketing venue in the UK (after Lord’s) Edgbaston is Warwickshire County Club’s turf and is also regularly used for Test matches, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. When England comes to play the turnout is terrific; Birmingham’s cricket fans and local Asian communities flock here when India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka show for a match. The stands were packed that legendary day back in 2005 when Edgbaston hosted the epic second Test at the Ashes and England became the first team to hit 400 runs in a first day of Test cricket against Australia since 1938. Another highlight in the ground’s 133 year history is Brian Lara’s world-record first-class score of 501 not out. This classic English cricket ground is moving with the times, installing extra seating for the third Test Match of this year’s Ashes Series. Oh, and there’s great news if you hate rain, Edgbaston is the least disrupted by downpours out of all of England’s Test Grounds, losing less than 90 minutes per play compared with over 8 hours on other pitches. For more information on where to head after the cricket, read our article about the best eats in Edgbaston.tps://www.youtube.com/embed/C6QWit03wAA?list=PLTvNBKePIlLHf4nvJbVzAm2zixAjXTTMr5. The Oval, LondonCapacity: 23,500Another big-hitter in the south-east of England, The Oval was built in 1845 to house Surrey County Cricket Club and was the first ground to host international Test cricket in 1880. It’s also considered the birthplace of the Ashes, as it was after a game played here against Australia in 1882, which they won by seven runs within two days, that a sports newspaper printed a mock-obituary for English cricket, leading to the creation of the Ashes urn. With such a long and rich history in Test cricket, the atmosphere here on major Test match days is something to be relished: gates open at 4:30pm and close of play is scheduled for 9:30pm, between which times the Pimms pours from the bar next to Hobbs Gates and hungry fans ravish greasy parcels of fish and chips or pulled pork rolls. Floodlights were only recently installed, but the original gas-lamps that used to light late play still stand – the Oval was the first sports arena to acquire such lamps in 1889.tps://www.youtube.com/embed/vFlwL-PAW6INow for the rest of the world:6. SCG, Sydney, AustraliaCapacity: 44,000One of the world’s cricketing cathedrals, Sydney Cricket Ground’s Ladies’ Pavilion, with its mint green tiled roof, is an iconic spot to watch your club score a century. The Australian ground was built in 1848 and is home to New South Wales Blues cricket team and the Sydney Sixers. It’s also where Sir Don recorded his highest first-class score of 452 not out – he’s such a star of the stadium (and the sport) that they named a stand after him in 2014. In 2007 it was the setting for the fifth Ashes Test match where Australia triumphed in a 10-wicket win to become the first team in 86 years to achieve an Ashes Series whitewash. Wars VII prompted a backlash over too much diversity "If white people arent wanted in Star Wars" complained one protestor under the #BoycottStarWarsVII hashtag "then our money must not be either" And paralleling the race controversy is the gender one: Jennifer Lawrence just published an essay advocating equal pay which Bradley Cooper supported by announcing he would now reveal his salary to female actors before they signed a contract to be in the same film with him When Cooper and Lawrences American Hustle co-star Jeremy Renner was asked if he would follow Coopers actions he said "Thats not my job" Actually its all of our jobs to fight discrimination Im surprised at the profound silence from other male actors who should all rush to stand with Cooper As Edmund Burke said "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" The struggle for racial and gender parity in America can be summed up in two exquisite lines from Robert Brownings poem "Andrea del Sarto": "A mans reach should exceed his grasp Or whats a heaven for" Its appropriate that these lines have been quoted so often in pop culturefrom The Prestige to The Starter Wife to Star Trekbecause it reflects not only Americas approach to diversity in hiring practices but Hollywoods Though the quote inspires us to reach for the unreachable star it also advises us to settle for an imagined place of equality maybe far into the future or someplace we migrate to after were dead But thats just not good enough When it comes to providing equal opportunity to thrive Americans must grasp in the here and nowOr whats a Constitution for Hollywoods commitment to diversity has been applauded in the last couple month based largely on two events First for five weeks in a row in August and September of this year films featuring African-Americans dominated the box office Then Viola Davis became the first black woman to win an Emmy as lead actress in a drama for her role in How to Get Away with Murder But these two events dont actually reflect much progress They are illusionsthe kind of reality-bending special effect that Hollywood is so good at Just because you think you are seeing more people of color more women more LGBT characters it doesnt mean the industry is actually diversifying When we pull back the curtain the Great and Powerful Hollywood is mostly business as usual White male business Viola Davis winning an Emmy which she richly deserved is part of an Obama effect When Barack Obama was elected Americas first black president much of the country celebrated that a major obstacle to racial equality had been destroyed Dr Kings dream was rekindled in the imagination of every American who felt hopeful that the fair treatment promised by the Constitution was finally within reach and it felt like the beginning of actively eliminating disparity Americans would become like bomb-locating dogs sniffing out the archaic lunkheaded notions of racism and barking at them until they were dismantled and made harmless Man it was an inspiring moment in history Though the country gave itself a well-earned pat on the back for electing a black man to the presidency the systemic racism in the country seemed to get worse It was as if some people figured "We just proved were not racist by electing Obama now were free to continue to deny equal education job opportunities voter access and whatever else is on our agenda" The police shootings of unarmed black men and women escalated protests ensued A New York Times/CBS News poll in July revealed that 68% of blacks think race relations in the US are bad more than double the percentage who thought that immediately after Obama was elected It was as if President Obama had become that one black friend that some white people like to claim as proof they arent racist Giving Davis the Emmy is Hollywoods version of electing Obama "See" theyre saying "were as diverse as a Benetton ad" The irony is Daviss Emmy-worthy performance was as much a larger comment on diversity itself as it was stellar acting The two minutes when she first removes her eyelashes makeup and finally wig as if it was a battle-scarred gladiators helmet to reveal her vulnerable self as a woman and an African-American are emotionally moving and powerful social commentary That was television at its best: entertaining illuminating daring and socially responsible In her acceptance speech Davis said "The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there" Her comment isnt just about women of color in Hollywood though its about all people of color women seniors the LGBT community and others who are marginalized The true nature of this marginalization was highlighted on HBOs Project Greenlight recently The show held a contest to select a director who would be given money to make a film and then followed through the grueling process Matt Damon who is one of the creator-producers along with Ben Affleck argued with another producer Effie Brown about the final selection Brown an African-American woman who has produced 17 films rightfully suggested that whoever they select to direct have some sensitivity in portraying the films only black character Damon responded: "When were talking about diversity You do it in the casting of the film" Of course there was backlash that accused Damon of wanting to maintain whites behind the camera while giving the illusion of diversity by showing black faces on the screen That is the true problem with diversity in Hollywood But it wasnt really what Damon meant He was saying that because they were selecting among finalists it was already too late in the competition to make diversity a criteria for selection He was right If diversity were factored in the contest should have made that clear as HBO did with HBOAccess Writing Fellowships launched in March to help emerging writers with diverse backgrounds (HBO Sports will air a documentary about me Minority of One on Nov 3) According to a Writers Guild of America report the number of minority writers actually declined last year to 137 percent And according to a University of Southern California study from 2002 to 2014 women directed only 41% of the top grossing films Hollywood is the face of America to much of the world Other cultures learn about us from what they see in our movies and television shows And Hollywood has been creating roles of true substance for minorities women and other marginalized groups For that the industry should be applauded and encouraged to do more But if they want to achieve true diversityand we dont yet know if they dothat must happen not only in front of but behind the cameras with writers directors producers and others They need to show they value those voices and stories in the larger culture Its a star I think within their grasp Contact us at [email protected] IDEAS TIME why someone might see her leaning forward as ‘oh my gosh she’s trying to look under the stall’" Rose told KXIIRick Beene the superintendent of Achille Public Schools told KFOR that law enforcement group that might be here and that could lead to problems" Beene said "When you get into a small town you don’t have to get a permit to demonstrate therefore the problem with that is you don’t know who’s showing up you don’t know what time they’re going to show up or anything like that"Beene clarified that only the person who wrote the initial Facebook post was a parent who actually lives in the "It’s certainly something that people didn’t deal with 20 30 years ago"—This article was written by Samantha Schmidt a reporter for The Washington PostAgriculture "is cyclical If you’re in a down cycle (as is the case now) sooner or later there will be an upswing But when it will happen is hard to predict" he saidJohansson spoke April 24 to members of North American Agricultural Journalists during the group’s annual convention in WashingtonJohansson a Minnesota native who earned his doctorate the University of Minnesota has served in the US Peace Corps Congressional Budget Office Office of Management and Budget and the USDA He served as USDA deputy chief economist from 2012 to 2014 ascending to the top job in 2015Much of his presentation covered trends and developments with which many agriculturalists already have at least some familiarityThe fundamental cause of generally poor ag commodity prices and low farm profitability is obvious Johansson said"Global production has exceeded global demand for the past few years" he saidPoor prices eventually will cut into planted acreages and production at least for some crops and boost prices But when that will happen is uncertain said Johansson who added that strong competition for export sales from South America and elsewhere clouds the outlookSome people both in and out of agriculture worry about ag producers’ rising debt leading to concerns that the US ag economy might be headed for a repeat of the 1980s Crushing debt then drove many farm families out of businessToday ag producers’ debt is rising to levels to similar to those in the 1980s but today’s interest rates are far lower reducing the difficulty of making payments Johansson said"The trend (of rising farm debt) is something we’re watching but the level right now is not something we’re too concerned about" he saidThe news media has realized that times are getting tougher in ag and that many older farmers are getting out he said"You’ll see a lot of stories about transition about farmers transitioning out of agriculture passing it on to the next generation" Johansson said cautioning against reading too much into what happens in any single year"It’s hard to look at one year and say ‘Things are terrible things are great’" he saidOther observations from Johansson included the following: The 2014 farm bill was written and approved when farm profitability generally was good The next farm bill on which Congress has begun work will feature "stronger arguments" to increase farmers’ economic safety net The farm bill is the centerpiece of the federal food and agricultural policies; a new one is usually written every five years? expensive chip, which has in turn resulted in a price hike. popularly called K1 de Ultimate, Some state
